Hey Guys,

My internet connection isn't the greatest and my uploads are not getting top speed. I am looking for a way to really pump out the uploads.

Thus, I would be interested in a seedbox. If you have anything to offer, please post:

HD Space
Transfer Limit
Connection Type
Computer Specs

Look forward to replies.

Merry Xmas

Thanks for the links. I checked out webhostingtalk.com. I was browsing through the offers but got confused. What I am looking for is something under $20. I want to use uTorrent so i guess it must be windows only. HD space isn't a concern I won't be needing more then 10 GB at the most. Transfer limit should be at least 100 GB per month.

Can you help me out, any recommendations?

I plan on uploading. Once my upload gets a lot of seeds I will delete it and let others take care of it.

If your looking for something in the $20 range your gonna have to look a while. Try looking for a VPS I doubt you would find anything dediced for that cost for 1 user though.

Maybe a totally stupid question.. Can you pay for the seedbox trough PayPal or something, as I'm not 18 yet..

I think 'TheDude87' is looking to buy into an existing seedbox and not a whole one for himself.

What you gonna go for linux? I suggest you have somebody that knows linux who can help you incase you get into a sticky situation, because i have heard many stories of people going for the cheaper option ie. linux and then gettin stuck.

Good luck hopefully you wont need it :)

Edit:typos, also what package you going for?

If you choose Windows as a operating system it will be almost exactly like your home PC(thats if you are using windows web/server editions), you just connect to it/server remotely and then just browse/login to your site and download the torrent as if you would do on your home PC, the torrent and files stay on the server, you would then need to create a ftp back to your home pc in order transfer the files to be ripped, burned or watched.

You do everything you would do on your home pc except thru the server now,
1. Connect to server form home pc "remotely" "remote desktop connection" start/all programs/accessories/communication/remote desktop connectioncan be use for windows os
2. browse to torrent site using fox or ie still thru server
3. download torrent file and save files onto server hard drive
4. complete downloading files
5 create ftp, "file transfer protocol", back to your pc, uploading from server and downloading to your home pc
6. un-raring files once you have them all on your home pc or you could unrar the file on the server hard drive and just ftp the complete file back to your pc.

Thought it would be easier if i put it in point form.

For ftp software just search your favorite site :)

I wonder about that actually.
I don't know whether I could pay for anything like that.
The fact is my shitty housemates at University only pay for capped internet - we are allowed to download at most 15GB a month(!!!!!!!) at peak times.
So if I payed for a seedbox how much would I actually be able to use it? Not much...

And also that's a lot of beer.

You can just join in a seedbox pool and pitch in... an effective dedibox or vectoral server can do about 10MB/s. If one uses this capacity to its full extent- it is around 25,920GB (25TB) upped per month.

lol. That's gotta look pretty fucked up on a top users list...

edit: I might do this at some point. But not now. And only in a pool. How exactly would you share a server?

Beats me, I don't share one:P I guess you could just limit each person to 2 torrents each, and each torrent at a max of 1.5MB/s...or you can alternate days..or amount uploaded, its up to you.

I don't want to pay too much, the cheapest one I can see is 49 Euros, also I have had no experience with linux, so I think I'd need a windows box

xtcstylx
12-30-2006, 07:47 AM
windows box is not gonna be cheap. go to www.webhostingtalk.com and look under VPS server offers since your on a low budget. Before you buy it ask if they allow torrentflux and if they do, you can ask them to install it for you for maybe a one time fee of $10.

If you are going to share seedboxes then i suggest you do it with a friend or someone you know well because you can't really expect it to go fine when sharing it with someone you don't know.

That's what I thought, but apart from maybe losing one months 'rent' for the seedbox what else could happen...or is that me being very naive?

If you are not bothered about losing money then i think it is fair that you just trust anyone....

Just kidding. The best thing would be to hook up with someone here on FST that is a nice trader and would be willing to share accounts that way you can be even more certain that you won't get scammed of your money.:yup:

Thats a good idea, but can't you get banned if you use one account with multiple I.P's?

What about this?

Note that we don't allow multiple users to share accounts so don't login with too many different IPs or we'll be onto you!
