Hope Bush gets the same fate, but alas, it'll never happen, some democracy eh?

Edit: Yes, Saddam deserved this. But the court and the trial were a faux pas, to even deny it or contemplate denying that fact would be really really utterly stupid of someone. It was the biggest kangaroo trial/court in history. If justice is to be served it should be done so in a professional and honorable manner. Let's see how long it'll take for a full out civil war to break out over this.

"Full out civil war"? I think not. Even your own link states:

In the background, Shiite chanting could be heard. When asked about the chanting, the official said "These are employees of the prime minister's office and government chanting in celebration."

The witness reported that celebrations broke out after Hussein was dead, and that there was "dancing around the body."

The Iraqi people are happy to be rid of him. Other reports state that they are not expecting a strong increase in violence. Obviously, there will probably be a few isolated incidents, but a civil war? Nope. Would you like to eat those words now or later? :whistling

Iraqis are all a bunch of butchers, they didn't let the poor guy to live another day to see EID although they had another 29 days, they are going on same path that Saddam went once gained control over Iraq, its in their blood.

Other reports state that they are not expecting a strong increase in violence.

What reports? There has ALREADY been deaths over this, towns have been cordoned off and all leave cancelled.

I guess as long as none of your family are affected it's OK?

Whether he deserved this or not, the fact is, this trial was a farce, one judge was even sacked for showing sympathy to Saddam, others who have shouted and put him down were considered OK.

Why was he executed now? Why didn't he stand trial for the gassing of the Kurds? Could it be because facts would have been brought up that the US doesn't want known?

So he has been executed and you post a party smilie like this is going to solve something. OK explain why. What advantage has been gained by this other than you wingnuts thinking this is some kind of victory.
Going into Iraq had nothing to do with the "war on terror". Iraq was not a threat to us and had not attacked us.
By every technical definition it's a civil war. 3000+ killed each month, who is killing those people?

I couldn't care less about the demise Of hussain. He is one among many in this world that deserves such a fate. What I care about is what it actually achieves in ending this war? what has it solved?

Ava Estelle

.. what has it solved?

It's solved the problem of dragging countries into a 'who supplied the chemicals' trial, that's why he was tried for a crime that didn't involve other countries. Now he's gone, and the awkward questions won't be asked.

Sickening

Sickening, indeed.

However:

Leaving aside for a moment the issue of "playing God", the idea of characterizing Saddam's going to his death at the end of a rope as obscene is extremely small potatoes when laid against the fact that, for the same misbegotten reason, we have not (so far) been allowed to "enjoy" the video evidence from Saddam's own archive, which evidence was used to convict him.

It would seem that if this evidence was released for view by any and all, any voices previously inclined to rise in support of "fairness" to Saddam might be muted.

One might say we would be "sickened", no?

This bent to keep such evidence from review by other than judicial bodies deprives us of what we need to discern good from evil, moral from immoral...we have been deemed too fragile to deal with these things, but how are we to think correctly about any of it without access to the evidence?

Are we afraid we'd be stricken with bloodlust?

BTW-

It's the same dynamic that has the pro-abortion crowd screaming about showing an indecisive pregnant mother video of a baby in the womb, or, conversely, a partial-birth abortion, so that she might make an "informed" decision about her condition.

I agree there was political mischief involved in the way it was handled. I think that the "trial" was a predetermined piece of theatrics. But I also think that he got what he deserved.
Even though I say good riddance, I don't see is why it's a reason for us to celebrate.

It was silly. It's an immensely biased poll, and only you would require explanation.

Do you honestly think that the American people think that Bush is worse than Satan on a 25:1 basis?? It's just silly. They didn't even try to make the poll believable, yet they posted it anyways. And where was the poll taken anyhow? In the MSNBC break room? The Oscars? ACLU headquarters? It certainly wasn't an accurate depiction of the American peoples feelings, otherwise he would have a maximum approval rating of 4%.

It's just as silly Seedler's "Army Ranger". Silly, silly, silly. :noes:

The poll just reported the answers given and the percentages.

If you think it bias or silly to ask "who was your villain of 2006" or "who was your hero of 2006", and not give a choice from a list of names, but let the person come up with their own answer, then please enlighten me as to how such a question could be polled in an unbiased and non silly way.

Now had you said "I don't agree with their choice" then you may have a reasonable opinion. But instead you decided that the poll was silly and bias:rolleyes:

The execution is hardly a surprise and Saddam did not look like man surprised when the rope went around his neck. I am unconvinced his execution will achieve much and a full trial regarding both the Kurds and the Iran war might have better served national and international justice.

It is an Iraqi tradition to kill their leaders. They used to drag their bodies through the streets of Baghdad but TV suffices these days. Saddam lasted longer than most because he was a mean piece of work. I am not convinced that the current leaders will last as long but one can hope. If Iraq fails as a State then we will have made the ME a worse place not a better place. Consequently, we will be digging deep for men and money for a quite a while yet.

Not sure where Skizo gets the no civil war thing from - even the Pentagon is concerned about the rising sectarian violence.

Well anyway, the Iraqi Council has started an investigation as to why there were/was people with cell phones present at the execution. They are also extremely disappointed about the chants made during the execution such as "Go to hell" and "Moqtada", "Moqtada" in a reference to the Shia cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.

Source: BBC News (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/6224531.stm)

What he said ;)

But ok, I'll indulge. To answer your question, yes, I'd rather have the image of my cock in my head than a dead Saddam. Go figure.

...

Edit.

Why do you feel the need to make such an obvious point.

Do you think I have mistreated you at all (at all).

If you see it as a rebuke of some sort, you must acknowledge it as relatively mild, I'd think.

Of course, I am also sure you wouldn't presume anyone should take issue with your post to begin with.

I used to think that of myself, too.

No offense taken at all. Your condescending style is even bordering towards comically funny at times.

Glad you got that.

If the Army Rangers or Marine Snipers had been given the "go ahead" just one time in the several times that he was under the scope's in "Operation Desert Storm" we would not have had to re-visit the issue 10 years later and could have saved countless lives in the process but as it was they were told to be "Politicaly Correct" and could not shoot the bugger ..so we wasted untold monies and a trial when he shoulda just been took out behind the nearest sand hill, shot, beheaded or whatever it took ...I think hanging was a touch to gentle for him.....

Just one peeps thoughts

Interesting to contemplate what might have happened had we done that during the first go 'round in Iraq, yes.

Likely we'd have had short stints with Uday and/or Qusay before things settled down, but we might have skated past the insurgency as well.

I always thought the purpose of the mission was to liberate Kuwait and that there was no attempt to go into Iraq because they thought they would end up with the situation we have now.
It had nothing to do with if we could defeat the Iraqi military but that the country would become unstable and create a civil war in which outside countries could influence the outcome contrary to how we would like it.
