So I won't make the mistake of uploading and getting into touble. I thought newsgroups was just straight downloading from newsleecher or nzbomatic or grabit lol. thanks.

You don't have to upload if that is what you mean(?). I do sometimes though as I feel I want to give something back.

Why in newzbin when you click on a post, it says upload time, upload speed, and upload rate. Shouldn't it say download instead of upload. I am confused by that. Are you just uploading from newzbin and downloading from usenet/newsgroups. If you upload from newzbin, can you get caught?

It's just showing how long time it took the uploader to upload the whole package. Newsbin is just indexing the things found on usenet. There are people who find the files and "crates a package" (nzb).

I don't think the risk is very high when uploading to usenet unless you upload kiddyporn, massive MP3 collections on several 100 GB's etc.

Usenet uploaders can get their posting rights revoked if the copyright holder complains.

Only with shitty usenet providers.

Newshosting is not a shitty Usenet provider, or do you think so?

Apparantly it is.

They won't do that. They don't check.
They realise that most of their users are using the service for downloads. Why would they get rid of this?!?!

They just need to look lawful.

They do and they will. They do check their mail for DMCA notices. A real-world example:
Newshosting revoked the posting rights of the account holder who posted Newzbin PostID 2262910 and PostID 2262624 after Paramount contacted Newshosting directly about those two posts. I didn't know that's how the DMCA works but it does. That particular poster now uses Astraweb.
