It has probably been asked, but I am not finding an answer through search. I am trying to find a reliable way to hide my IP address while using Bit-Torrent, that does not slow down downloads.. too much that is... Is there such a solution? Your help is appreciated.

You don't risk anything if you're just a user (unless you're really, really unlucky)

and what power users do risk more?

i think it doesnt matter if you are user of power user.
Using private trackers seems much safer than public ones...

Thanks for all the replies... It just seems that there is a lot of talk going around of late about people cracking down, and I'd hate to find out the hard way... I guess you could tunnel a BT Client through a proxy, but that would be real slow...

I have heard mixed bags. Some say you have nothing to worry about, and other say that it is getting more and more risky all the time... Really not sure what to believe. God I love file sharing!!

HBO likes to go after people downloading their shows, mostly off stuff from torrentspy. But on anything remotely private you don't have to worry.

Norton also goes after downloaders of their soft.. Use private trackers, the harder it was to get in, the better and safer it is;)

To be honest the main thing is don't give your ISP any sign that you are using BT. In other words keep bandwidth to something fair.

stay away from public trackers!!!! peerguardian won't save you! With private trackers, you have a much smaller chance of getting caught....but if you can get an invite, so can a HBO spy or whoever...so nothing is 100% safe. Bring on darknet or something truly anonymous!

the proxies only work when they report it to the tracker, peers can still see your real IP in the peer list

Hiding ones IP with bittorrent, is like trying to deliver a letter with no address on it.
