Ranked in order of who I like most, not necessarilly(sp) who I think is the best:

1. Howlin' Wolf
2. Bob Dylan (at least until recently. He doesn't quite have the lung capacity anymore needed to blow on the harp for an extended solo)
3. Neil Young

The best Harmonica player I ever heard was "Magic Dick" Salwitz of the J Geils Band. If you don't beleive me, listen to the live version of "Wammer Jammer" from their full house album.;)

Magic Dick
"Wherever Magic Dick blows the harp, there's a houseparty going on." A pioneer in sound and style for rock harmonica, the 80's saw the J. Geils Band release a number of albums with one or two great, innovative harmonica solos buried away. Definitely worth tracking down.

I have to agree with the ones saying John Popper, he's truely amazing. Saw an interview with him once, he actually went through a few of the others mentioned's styles just to show the differences, and you would have been hard put to tell him apart from the originals. True genius.
