Usenetserver just announced that they have 75 day bin retention. It's nice to see another usenet provider competing with Giganews and Newshosting, their unlimited account is cheaper than newshosting's too :) I may have to switch.

Here is a snippit from the official release off of their website:

Mon, 8 Jan 2007 15:12:57 GMT

Today we have completed phase 2 of our retention upgrades. We now have article retention of 75 days!

Nice, quick question. Does this mean 75 day old files are available now or will they start keeping them for 75 days starting now?

why didn't I wait a little longer. I just signed up for newshosting for a year. So I can't cancel it because I don't get my money back. dammit.

I cant wait for phase three :D if it will be more than 90 days giganews will have to increase retention too.

I'm loving these usenet wars, means we get better service at a cheaper price, if Usenetserver's phase 3 retention is higher than Giganews hopefully their prices will stay low also.

Usenetserver is great. The price is right, my connection gets maxed out, and now the retention is great. I highly recommend them. Why would anyone spend about twice as much for Giganews?

I have to wait until my current news server's priod will be end this March, then I'm going to sign up a new Usenetserver account. Usenetserver is superior. I've tried it for 3 days and they're great.

great news but they don't accept paypal :(

Are there any usenet providers that do accept paypal? I thought they couldn't because paypal won't let you use them if your company has anything to do with porn, and we all know the usenet is loaded with porn ;)

FriLock newsdemon.com does but they put you on different servers with all the porn removed

Thanks for this digitrifecta,Used the free easynews server in December and noticed the difference from my isp.
Maybe fst should have a affiliate with Usenetserver as well

I just added up some figures in Excel for their pricing

Per Day = $3
Per Month = $14.95
Per 3 Months = $39.95

If you do each one for 3 months this is what it costs you:

Day Rate = $279
Month Rate = $44.85
3 Month Rate = $39.95

stephen-UNS
01-15-2007, 06:33 PM
The $3 account is for 3 days not 1, so it would be $30 for a 30 day month. I think you will get better data by looking at each account type on a per day cost. $39.95/91.25 = $0.43+/day for the 3 month account.

I'm lucky enough to be grandfathered on Usernetserver as i have been with them since the begining. I have used my account in England, Holland and Spain and it always maxes the connection, currently sitting at 2,500kb/s and has been since the day i got my upgrade.

Your welcome bald1. Having usenetserver as an affiliate would be good for FST I think, how do we get that done?

I am lucky, I'm in the states and I have a 10Mb cable line :) Usenetserver keeps my pipe maxed out at ~1.2MB/s. Its awesome, nothing like grabbing a episode of 24 in 6 minutes. I still can't believe UNS only costs $15/month for unlimited, the service is almost to good to be true. oh yea I'm using it at work now to since they have SSL :yup:

I have adsl2 25mb so things actually download too fast. I have hundreds of burnt dvds with stuff ive never watched. Oh and UNS are going to increase to 90 days (for free)by March then hopefully to 120 (for additional cost) days before 2008.

I definately would switch providers if I wasn't getting Giganews for free (provided by my ISP). I used Newshosting for quite awhile before I switched ISPs.

Hey guys,
Does UseNetServer allow to share account? (total connections = 10)
I only have 512Kbps downstream, I thought 2 or 3 connections is good enough.

deputysalty

No. Never share usenet accounts.

Simply amazing. Under $15 a month and my connection is maxed whether I'm updating headers or leeching something. The 75 day retention is nice too. Thanks for letting us know about this great host!

No. Never share usenet accounts. There are companies who allow it. I know a guy who shares his acc, could be this company is unique with its policy but it's worth verifying !

For most usenet providers you can share accounts provided you both dont use it at the same time. Because, if you think about it, you could just say that you are using it the entire time and just move around a lot (aka, two homes).

UseNetServer

We are now affiliates with UseNetServer which now has 75 day retention.
UseNetServer quality service currently has unlimited accounts at a low
rate of $14.95 a month or $39.95 for 3 months as well as other plans.

I signed up with them a week ago and it's been an amazing ride! A smart choice, I think, in my first attempt to tackle newsgroups. I'm hooked and I'm happy to say that I'll be leaving torrents in the dust.

I too signed up with UsernetServer about a week ago when the usenetserver wasnt an affiliate. So I emailed them ( http://www.usenetserver.com/contactus.html ) asking if they would edit my account to use the affiliate link and they responded with this:

They were not an affiliate when you signed up, that is why you could not sign up under their agentID. But I did add them to your account.
So I would recommend emailing them and hopefully if the guy responding to your request is kind enough, he will make the change. :)

Oh, and shouldnt this get pinned like all the other affiliates?

was with them for over a year good service and customer support fast :)

i believe if you want to share your accounts without getting caught you would need a business account .
As a personal account if you share it you can get banned from UNS read the small print :) .

And it's not worth getting banned used them for over a year fast speeds high completion and customer service is fast and friendly :)

Sharing is quite a risk. Don't want to lose something you paid for right?

I have newsdemon and i have tried it, you cant get a file that old even with nzbs :(

Edit: Maybe you can, I only tried two posts but they might not have ever been on the server anyway. I also read some posts on another forum that said it had retention of 119 days. I will try it again soon
