I've been living in the UK for 3 years and in that time I've been back in Belgium twice, for a total of 8 days.
I just received this e-mail from our ministry of foreign affairs:

Betreft: federale parlementaire verkiezingen 2007

Geachte Mevrouw/Geachte Heer,

Hoogachtend,

Karel De Gucht
Minister van Buitenlandse Zaken

They're basically telling me that I have to get back to them before the 1st of february so I can vote in the federal elections.
In Belgium voting is compulsory.
So if I don't vote I get fined

So... they're wanting me to vote for a parlement that does not affect my life whatsoever.
Not only that, I don't follow Belgian politics so I don't have a clue who does what these days:unsure:

What's the use?

Just spoil the ballot paper and send it back. No fine and you get to register your disdain in an official manner.

"The law of 7 March 2002 , which still applies, simplified this procedure by allowing a representative to vote by proxy (M.B. of 08.05.2O02)."

Is Belgium a hotbed of political intrigue or are they all useless tossers like politicians worldwide.

Mr JP Fugley

I agree with Allen S. Spoil the paper.

Be a wee bit more subtle tho', put a tick instead of an x. Or a wee drawing of a peen.

That'll learn the Dutch Bar Stewards for making you vote.

It's only a bit of paper, just put an X on it :fist:
that's if you can do a proxy vote
I'm glad you are in the UK and enjoying it like you do, My experiences of Belgium have not been good, My visit (1993) I got arrested at Bruges train station for non payment of a train ticket purchase, it was not my fault that this happened, it was all confusion caused by the ticket chap.
I was escorted to the guard house and I told them what happened, at the time i was employed with HMCG, I showed the station officer my ID and he spat on it, yet it had the Queens crest on it.
Bastard fucker.
I would never return to that country and I have no respect for the law in Belgium at all.
Sorry for my language, but it's upsetting

Well...

In Belgium, the king can veto anything he wants... technically

The last one who tried to pull that one off was found unfit to rule for 3 days so they could pass the law

Skweeky
01-12-2007, 01:56 PM
It stems from the day of the multiple voting system.

Many company owners wouldn't allow their employees to go voting when they received the right to vote.
So the government made it complusory.
That way everyone HAD to go

Alien5
01-12-2007, 01:58 PM
people complain that voting is pointless so they dont bother to vote, i think were lucky to have a say in the matter, even if all the politicians suck.

Yeah i thing we should also make it compulsory in the the Uk, that way we would get a better result overall. :D

I disagree, but I respect your right to have that opinion :smilie4:

If people don't want to vote, then they've got a right not to have to vote. If you force them to vote, then they could vote for anybody, out of spite.

However, you should have to demonstrate some minimum level of understanding of politics before you are allowed to vote though. It's not like X-Factor.

For example, should this person be allowed to make important decisions?

I don't know

I've already added two other damn fine terms (http://www.urbandictionary.com/author.php?author=manker) at urban dictionary and I'm just not confident that 'Boabism' is up there with them.

I reckon it is.
Boabism deserves its own place in the dicitonary.
You know it makes sense

BTW, I couldn't find a lapdancing club with male dancers in Glasgow, so I'll just go to a normal one and get some boobies rubbed in my face

A tip Bo gave me; usually in strip-clubs, they're not allowed to touch you but if you take your time in deliberately picking the ugliest stripper to give your table a dance - she'll be so grateful that you'll get a face-full of her hawt tits :smilie4:
