I am having problems with excel 2007's auto correct features.

For example, open up excel

pick any cell

type "October 2006"
it will autocorrect it to 10/1/2006

That is not what I want, I don't want it to make it look like day 1 of october.

or type "November 06"
it will autocorrect to Nov-07

I've looked at the excel options under the proofreading tab (found that through help)

But it only gives me the autocorrect dictionary that doesn't talk about re-formatting dates.

Any suggestions?

Right click on a cell or a collection of cells and choose "format cells"

From there you can either make up a custom formatting for those selected cells, or choose a predefined one. (what you're looking for may be under "Date" in the list to the left)

Hope this helps.

I know that I can do it manually, but is there a setting that will make it not automatically autocorrect without having to individually changing the cell's format settings every time I use excel?

Heh, I just tried it and it does automatically change the data you enter.
Doesn't seem to be a switch to turn it off either.
What a fucking stupid thing to have to put up with!

Same happens in excel 2003

Man, that sucks that it has to do that. I can't believe they don't have an option to disable it...
