Is there anything special you need to do in order to play downloaded NTSC wii games?

Whoa, when did all these Wii releases come out? I wonder... is it possible to play them yet, I'm curious to know myself... I just might grab me a Wii. :P

There are images of WII games but there is still no tool/modchip that allows you to play them.

It will soon be done. Microsoft has expirence in this and the 360 was done in 3 months. Nintendo has no experience, i reckon it will be done sooner.

What do you mean experience? Nintendo has been making consoles for alot longer then Microsoft.

No way to play them yet, just like when we started seeing releases of 360 games. They are just raw dumps but there should be a hack coming very soon.

by experience, i mean in countering piracy. they do it with all there products.

for nintendo, only the GC games were ever pirated, and that by only a few.

microsoft counters piracy of windows, office, xbox and xbox360. thats what i meant by experience.

and nice SG-1 av.... its my favorite show also, too bad its the last season :( at least there'll still be SGA and BSG

actually i heard wii along with game cube has some vicious antipiracy schemes, however i would rather buy cheaper games than pirate it, nintendo really deserves to be supported for such an fun system

true, true... but you actually think its fun? I find it quite boring and childish. Mind you i've only played WiiSports and Zelda.

Incorrect... Nintendo were dealing with piracy years ago for NES Snes and Gameboy.

They had battles in court over companys who produced hardware to make copies of the carts onto 3.5" floppy. You could then playback the games from the floppy drive and sell on the cart if you so wished. I would call that experience with Piracy.

Did they need to develope code to stop this? No... because it was not widley done because the copy units cost quite some dosh back then. Its not been a big thing for Nintendo because its always been so expensive so much harder for the piracy to be done then on say XBox or PS2... XBox being the easiest to hack then any other I think.

Anyways they have had experiance and who knows what steps they have taken on the WII because they have not said.

ya? I din know that. But it wasnt really widespread. Even GC pirated games were not very widespread. Anyways... lets not jack this nice man's thread.

Wiinja - First Wii Modchip already on sale

i wouldnt mod the wii or any current gen consoles. now a firmware update can render these things useless and possibly brick your systems

that's a good point. then you'd see wii's through the tv's instead of just the controllers

It will be hacked in no time. Saw a video where an encryption expert compared the drm to the gameboy. Not much difference.

for all you that are worried about chip detection, the first two chips, wiinja and cyclowiz, are drive mods and are region locked (GC games can be loaded via swap disc)in short, this means that these two chips cannot be detected or disabled by firmware updates. the only way to detect these two modchips is to crack your wii open. one chip claims to offer this "stealth" feature, but in reality they both have it due to the types of mods they are. hope this clears stuff up for some

no need for little discs, even for GCN games. just use quality DVD-R's

Warning, wii chips may not work on 2nd gen consoles, apparently wiinja is having some problems gettin em working on consoles that werent purchased in the first batch! also, if you are downloading your backups dont forget to unscramble them before burning!

personally, im gonna wait a bit on the modchip scene, see what happens and what can or can not get detected!

wii chips are already out and cyclowiz is out on almost every modchip store :(

You can Play Wii backups without a mod-chip.

Using a LPT 25 way cable connected to the pc from on side and solder to the DVD drive firmware on the other side. (only 5 wires to be soldered). Your pc will then play to same role than a modchip. Remplacing on-the-fly the firmware restriction to accept burned disc to boot. A easy and cheap (3 $) mod.

Yep, but its a relatively easy and safe mod. Soldering points are quite big so even with a cheap solder iron and minimal skill shouldn't be a problem.
