Inspired from another thread (about cable management!) and a link that Clocker showed from some forum where members posted pics of their tidy 'rigs' (I think that's the term to be used :P)

I thought it might be interesting to see what other members of this 'ere forums rigs/setup was like.

Anyway here's mine no flashy side panels or anything...

Hmm I like!! :D Whats the noise levels like? As I was thinking of ditching my Hiper , as it is by far the loudest, most annoying PSU i've ever had the misfortune of owning....apart from that it's ok. :)

Hmm I like!! :D Whats the noise levels like?

It's completely in-audible, id highly recommend it.

Each ModStream is built with PowerWhisper technology to significantly reduce noise levels to virtual silence, making this the quietest power supply on the market. Experience leading edge reliability and performance with increased air flow, courtesy of a whisper quiet, yet extremely vigorous 120mm fan complete with attractive blue LEDs.

Hi Colt, yep thats the cooler. Does a good job, although it could do with been a little more quiet when its going full whack... Its a Tuniq Tower 120.

Quite a beast size wize...131mm (W) x 108mm (H) x 153mm (D)
The fins are nice and sharp too, my fingers found this out whilst fitting the bugger... Still pleased with it though, way better at cooling than the cooler which came with my cpu.

I think come pay day I think I will be buying one :D... really the noise from my PSU goes from fairly quiet to an almost unbearable grinding din...gotta get shot of it. The only thing that stops me replacing it with a bog standard PSU is I like all this modular wiring, makes things more managable.

Wozz thats is pretty hefty man! Hope you've still got all yer fingers tho :) Mines just got the stock cooler :( But I used to have a Zalman Copper or something like that, but one day the fan just stop working ..so i'm kinda off them for now...

 Yeah fingers all good, may have kicked in some aversion therapy though, wouldn't rush to take it out again...

Yeah the modular psu's are sound. I have a seasonic 600w in mine. Also silent.

Seasonic updates its Silent series of power supplies with the S12 series. Offering yet more innovation and an improved cooling system. A ventilation grid has been built in to the housing of the PSU to facilitate the removal of warm air from your system. Utilising a single 120mm fan for cooling these PSU's operate in silence and Seasonic have a reputation in the US for building the highest quality power supplies available.

I have tried the bog standard psu's twice now, both times they developed an intermittent fault, which wasn't much fun. Then a mate pointed out that skimping on the psu was akin to skimping on your cars breaks... the whole system relies on it, so its really not worth cutting any corners.

Guys, I need some suggestions for what I could do about my hard drive because it still seems to be making a lot of "seeking noise". As you can see from the pics I've posted the HD is sitting on those blue rubber grommets but the vibration is still coming through the case because the screw heads are making contact with the metal of the case. I was thinking of getting felt pads (ones like you'd put on the bottom of chair legs) and putting those between the screws and the case, or perhaps some rubber washers if I can find some at the hardware store. Any ideas or suggestions?

Edit: Being that the mount holes on the bottom of the case are small as is I cant put the grommets though like supposed to be, I already had to bore out the holes to get the screws though.

callum

You could use some long thin zip ties to secure the hd, put them through the holes that are there and over the hd or drill some new ones if needed.

Can't remember which drive you got, but I'm pretty sure at least one manufacturer has a utility which sets the seek speed. It controls the power of the seek solenoid to give a quieter operation, but at the cost of performance.

No possibility here to route PSU cables down the outside of the case, so where possible they run behind the motherboard or in the 5½ drive bay. Custom IDE and Floppy cables make for good airflow. Toolfree padded drive mounts make easy fitting and quiet operation.

Next purchase will hopefully include a combined floppy and card reader slot in matching black. Trouble is, every time I visit my supplier they seem to have sold out of them. In the background is the LED printer - bigger than the tower.

This one is still a work in progress so no graphics card yet, but the built-in graphics chip is ok for most purposes, even some fairly recent games. The keyboard, mouse, vga and audio cables combine and run off to a wall mounted KVM switch.

I don't think anyone has pimped their PC here more than I.
Clocker has been busy.
My new car has been a time/money drain, so Sprocket has had to take a back seat for a while- a position she is ill-suited to fulfill.
Things have not been completely static however, I have a bunch of new parts that I've been/or about to be testing.

Here she is when last complete...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v78/clocker/pretest.jpg
And as she sits right now...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v78/clocker/testloop.jpg
Here's the mess my desk has become...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v78/clocker/deskmess1.jpg
Somewhat visible in the last pic are:
-Three new HDDs, all Seagate SATA, 2x 250GB (currently running in RAID0) and one 500GB
-New Lite-on SATA DVD-RW
-new EK multi-rez
-new D-tec Fuzion waterblock

The current internal hardware- AMD Opteron 180, DFI Expert mobo, Leadtech 7900 GT, and 2x1GB Patriot PC3500 are almost sold and will be replaced with some sort of Intel based system (depends on cashflow).

Not pictured is the Silverstone 850w PSU sitting under the desk...it will replace the Corsair 520w currently in the case.

Happy now, Colt?

P4 520...D101ggc (most were hand me downs :) ) Maybe next time I upgrade my PSU I will give him my modular, that should fix the rats nest...A clear case is a nightmare for proper cable management.

Very nice accat13, the UV shows up well.

I've just built a PC for my old man, his 5 year old Dell finally died on it's arse. So I may post some more pics later...oh the excitement. :w00t:

To tell you the truth, I think the Armor and Tsunami ar ethe same size. You see the bottom pic right? Well, that space that my comp in is just over 2 feet. And as for the tower, its 19".But hell, it holds all the stuff I can put in it, so its all good.

And soon, when I get some more money to start building on it again, Im goin to get a 600W Volcano Modular PSu (from Fries Electronics) and then, that will let me use my daul core CPU that I have sitting on the top of those DVD's in the pic in the small brown box if you can see it (under the roll of tape by the tv).

EDIT* I didnt realize til now how good the pics turned out. I thought they looked shitty from the camera I was usilg lol.
And also, I think im going to try and put the LED's back in the case. When I do, I will be sure to take a pic of it :D

Built this system in early May. The speakers are going to be replaced when my shipment comes in on Monday (new 5.1 set!) and I'll also have a good gaming headset and X-Fi sound card. I don't really need to do much overclocking so the stock HS/F is fine. Going to order two 500GB drives some time soon as well :).

Its a Thermaltake Tsunami, very nice case imo. It does look nice, especially since I completely rewired the damn thing when the GeminII heatsink went in. I also added a Zalman cooler on the vid card recently, thats a lot cooler now too. I need new hardware though, which I won't be able to get till around the summer. That build will prolly go into another
Thermaltake case, this time the Black Armor Full tower.

The rest appear ignorant of my continued pleas. Clocker is camera shy...
Camera shy!!??

Mine didn't come with one, I don't remember ever seeing it, even when I first got it. I recently found an alarm off an old PC I got for free, but haven't bothered fitting it. Where exactly is is supposed to go? It might be useful at big LANs where I don't know all the people or its open to the public.

Fell in love with the Antec Nine Hundred case at a local fair this past weekend...

Love the idea of the front-removable drive bays:

I've never been good at cable management though:

http://i30.tinypic.com/al191k.jpg

Not too keen on the bling-y LEDs but I'm told it looks 'kewl':
http://i28.tinypic.com/105vcc7.jpg
Of course, I've changed the DVDRW drive's bezel to black since the pics were taken so it looks 'proper' now.

CPU Temps have dropped nearly 20 degrees C since adding the Xigma-Tec HDT cooler (a couple of months ago) and changing case. :)

My new Lian Li PC-A05B:

http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb19/Fall3nELiTE/IMG_2175.jpg

Don't laugh, I cut these two 120mm holes myself. I still need to get molding to cover up the cut marks.

http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb19/Fall3nELiTE/IMG_2181.jpg

The case has reverse airflow so the back fan is blowing in the case and the heatsink is too. CPU temps are around 32C -33C (low CPU use, not idle) during mid day with widows open and 83F outside and around 73F inside.

Look around were in a file sharing forum :P
The 26TB server is a home media hub serving downloaded movies, music & tv shows to two XBMC media center pc's in my home.

And the 8TB one is where i do most of my video and photo editing as well as downloading and sorting before transferring the files over to the media server for final storage.

Don't need to on the G5...it's already backwards compared to a standard PC case (just like my TJ-06 actually).

If you really want to know you can read through my Water cooled thread (http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/f-hardware-24/t-water-cooled-setup-309501), it is a WAY long read though, I've been at that thread singe August '08 so be prepared. Also that's an older rig of min my new one looks like this.

Alrighty then. Finally took some pics. You'll have to excuse the poor quality as I don't own a digital camera; I've only got the camera on my iPhone.

Here are two overview shots. There is one older IDE 320GB drive that is not visible. It is up in the lowest optical drive slot as that was the best place for it given the wiring layout. The DVD writer is up there as well, in the top slot.

http://i40.tinypic.com/21d33bd.jpg

http://i40.tinypic.com/1znc1zl.jpg

Other SATA drives. 1TB and a 500GB. The top drive slot looks empty but it contains my latest add-on: An OCZ Vertex Turbo 60GB SSD.

http://i44.tinypic.com/14ak8s8.jpg

GPU's.

These are two e-GeForce 8800 GTS's running in SLI. In between the two of them is a small GeForce 7800GT. The latter cards sole purpose is to run my second monitor since nVidia cards cannot run dual monitors and SLI at the same time. Thus, the 8800s run in SLI and the 7800 runs the second monitor.

http://i44.tinypic.com/20ppp3a.jpg

Processor stuffs and RAM.

CPU is an Intel Core2Quad Q6600 "(Kentsfield) [G0] 2.40GHz Socket 775"

RAM is Corsair. Total of 8GBs. (800MHz dual DDR2)

http://i42.tinypic.com/155j4w7.jpg

Here is the whole setup. Built the tables myself as well. :)

The strange angles are b/c I stitched two pics together in Photoshop.

SLI is the tits.

I first did it with my Dell XPS and 7900GTXs, then on this PC with 8800GTs, and most recently with 8800GTXs. I tested the WEI with just one and had a 5.2 for gaming graphics and a 5.8 for graphics. Dropped the second one in and I got 7.1 across the board.

deadfukkr
06-04-2010, 05:39 AM
yeah its the H50. i like it. i have this phenom 955 clocked at 3.8ghz and usually idle around 27-33C depending on room temp and loads are pretty nice as well. it doesn't perform quite as good as the top air coolers but it definitely gives them a run for their money.

Rart

Is that the Corsair H50? How is it?

I've heard it can have some nasty issues (http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1042-page1.html) with odd, gurgling noises from the water and such. But they may have just had a bad sample.

Personally though a lot of the better air coolers (with a decent fan) can perform a lot better and more quietly at often much cheaper price points. Here's (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835242001&cm_re=prolimatech-_-35-242-001-_-Product) one of the better ones, courtesy of Detale's recommendation, that'll most definitely perform better than the H50.

Detale
06-05-2010, 04:32 AM
Honestly the H50 is a decent idea implemented poorly. With today's CPU's running hotter and hotter when OC'd a 120.1 Rad just isn't enough. Most of the so called OC guru's out there will say that you need at least a 120.3 rad just for the CPU and that's at a minimum. Honestly I don't know. I do know as Rart mentioned that alot of the newer air coolers will preform better than the H50 and you don't have to worry about leaks:shutup:

deadfukkr
06-05-2010, 05:25 AM
i agree as i said it doesn't perform as well as the top air coolers but as far as noise it beats them hands down. one note about the h50 tho is to get the best effect from it then you should run a fan on each side of the radiator like:

inside fan>radiator>fan outside

obviously the fan type and speed make all the difference with the noise. i use 2 cooler master 120s http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103060 on each side of the radiator here and it works pretty good

corsair suggests you have the fans facing into the case to pull the cooler air from outside the case but i don't like the idea of pushing hot air into the case where it can be avoided

i read as well of a couple failing but those cases were pretty rare. unless you modify the h50 you don't have to worry about leaks. i did a lot of research before i pieced together my newest rig. over all i'm satisfied with an easy 100% stable 600mhz o/c on this 955 cpu. i'm confident the h50 still has room if i wanted to push it to 4ghz

on a side note the case in neat feature wise but i wouldn't buy another xclio case. i should have went with an antec

Rart

Slap on a decent fan (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185005&cm_re=scythe_s_flex-_-35-185-005-_-Product) and an air cooler should be quieter than the H50 at about the same fan speeds (and the specs on those CM fans are complete BS, by the way).

Detale
06-05-2010, 03:34 PM
I don't see how the H50 would be quieter as i agree that it's all about the fans you use. so if you use the same quiet fans (S-Flex's rock!) on both coolers they would be the same except that the H50 has an on board pump which has to add a few DB's.

Now I'm a watercooling guy for a while now and I have even been thinking about going air cooled as of recently. They have made some really great advances in air cooling as of late.

Not that I need a new case. I have a Tj07, a Thermaltake DH-102 and my g5 case pretty much sitting collecting dust ATM until I decide to get off my ass and do something with them. If I did get a new case today I think I'd go with the Antec Super Lanboy (http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0350057).

That's an interesting case but I'd wager a disaster in real life.
With all the removable panels and 15 fans it probably rattles like a motherfucker.
I hate how they still insist on claiming "positive air pressure" using computer fans, which don't have enough static pressure to overcome normal air pressure even under lab conditions, much less a case full of mesh...
Also, it seems counterintuitive to include (and make such a big deal about) the "air suspension" for hard drives.
Anyone spending $200 on a case is going to be using SSDs, which need no special vibration abatement.
Anyone actually going to LAN parties doesn't need (and isn't willing to lug around) six mechanical drives.
The suspension mounting would have been better used on the opticals (another dying technology).

Why make it possible to mount the opticals sideways but not account for them opening?
Seems like the front panel should be interchangeable with the forward sidepanels.

How come the motherboard tray/backplane cannot be flipped side to side?
I'd much prefer that to the raising and lowering (to what end?) Antec provides.

For $200 I could build a nicer case than that.
