I'm kind of a newb on internet speeds and such. I get about 170 kb/s down and 40 kb/s up. Is there anyway I can speed it up without spending more money? Like tweaks or anything

You're probably using yahoo dsl?

That's what it's going to max out at with the 1.5Mbps deal.

i have sbc dsl but we have the pro (twice what the 1.5 service is) and i get really good speeds. i had looked at cox cable before, but i had talked with many cox cable users who have gotten the shame on you for downloading and it better stop letters. in the almost 10 years and what seems like billions of d/l's u/l's i have never heard a peep. hi,

you can speed up things

check out this link

greetings

edit : oh yeah, you can try to set you upload to 80% of its original value. (Most pnp programs let you decide what upload value you want) This will greatly affect your download speed sometimes

If you use a download manager it will split the file up, and make multiple connections to the server. I can download at 4mb/s this way.

If your in the states, just sign up for Cox Cable service. Price is good and they offer 15mb/s down and 1.5 mb/s up. I have the bundled service making it even cheaper.

i suggest you not to try optimizing programs as they just make your system slow down
