I downloaded the experimental version but with no success in trying to increase my download speed.
I am on a measly 128K DSL and am trying to get the Centropy SVCD of The Matrix, but its going to take at LEAST another 5 days the way its going, and its on 24/7. Its been on 2 days, only at 20% now.
Anyone have any tips on how to increase my download?
I have no problem leaving my window open afterwards, as i realise this is the whole point of Bittorrent, but it is so slow for a shitty connection, there must be some way round it.
Right now its at....303 hours to go....
Thanks if anyone can help.(please help!)

I think your pretty well screwed on getting more speed as your download rate is a reflection of you upload rate. So if your only uploading at say 15k/s your only going to be able to download at around 20-30k/s for the majority of the download time.

supposedly bittorrent download speed is related to your upload speed, but it is easy to download at several times the speed of your upload (which is good for people with ADSL). the much bigger limiting factor is the number of seeds vs the number of peers.

bittorrent does not suck, not by any means, but the trick is to try to get files at a time when many seeds are available and not as many peers are connected. it's all about being in the right place at the right time.

I have to disagree, it doesn't suck when it come most files that transfer at a blazing speed. There are some that don't go very fast, reason; is that its too old, not a popular files or you just outta of luck.

THe problem with private FTP is that you have a load of people going for the one file it kills the bandwidth. With bittorrent, however, the more people going for the file the faster it is. I've gotten speeds up to 500kb/s on bittorrent - i rarely get less than 100kb/s - i've never gotten a corrupt file - there's always the newest stuff out really quickly. BT is really really good.

more people is not alway faster, if you connected to 100 dial up connection, you're bound to get crappy download of 2-3k/sec. because its congested. it depend who is connected to bt as well. so with a little common sense like this, this is no different from any other p2p.

Your problems are mainly because your connection and the age of the torrent, as these are what mainly dictate the speeds that you will receive. Older the torrent...less seeders.

I regularly see 4-6mb down on my torrents....but that is because of the tracker, age of file, and the connection I have (10down, 1 up).
