Hi all..

I have been wondering for ages now how to properly RAR up a file, so I actually compress it significantly.. All I have ever managed before is to create an archive, but which isn't compressed at all.. it has the exact same file size as the original "uncompressed" file...

Suggestions anyone?

Thanks :)

If the file is already compressed... u might not be able to compress it any further... not physically possible.

Many disk images may already be compressed to the fullest so rar'ing or zipping would not do much.

Also there are option tabs when you open the rar program to allow for fast or best compression. Fast compression usually doesnt compress the files much but packs all the files together for easier portability. Best compression may take a very long time but would "compact" and reduce the filesize as much as possible.

Not exactly..

I mean, is it possible to compress an executable file?
Music files?

Maybe I'm just doing it wrong?

Are you saying you never end up with a RAR significantly smaller than the original?

With different types:exe, avi, wav, txt, rtf, doc, etc?

Ahem. Can you recall which file types you have tried?
