I'm bulding a new pc for someone who wants an amd system for photo and maybe movie editing. She won't be replacing it anytime soon. This is what I have:

MSI K8N NEO4-F nForce4 (https://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=241163)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ (https://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80726-R)
Corsair VS2GBKIT400C3 2GB Kit (https://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80098-86)
Asus EN7600GS Silent/HTD GeForce 7600 GS (https://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=324069)
Enermax ELT500AWT Liberty 500W Power Supply (https://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=270341)
NEC AD-7170A 18X Double Layer DVD±RW (https://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=172523)
Coolermaster CAC-T05-UB Centurion 5 Mid Tower Case (https://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=141783)

She wants a budget pc and I'm not sure if this is overkill for movie editing.
any suggestons?

I've heard that there are PIF spike issues with that new NEC burner.

Check out the LG GSA-H22N (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=174257).

The dual core is a good choice for video editing, also a graphics card with dual output. Harddrive space is also a very big issue. I say aim for 500GB+ worth depending on her seriousness when it comes to post-production.

thanks vb i wasn't aware of the pif issues (pif???), but google confirms what you said, not that i've ever thought that i needed to confirm your opinion.:) i think i have an extra ide cable for that drive.

An extra hard drive is something she can just add later so i won't do anything with that yet.

i kinda wanted to build a core 2 duo system, but she wants amd, this processor looks good, and a core 2 would cost more anyway. I guess i'm kind of attached to amd anyway heh. :P
