http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v383/Hairbautt/News%20Images/InternetExplorer7Logo.pngYou may get to have a look at the future of the Internet Explorer browser sooner than you might think. Although Microsoft is currently lagging behind Mozilla that has introduced Firefox 3.0 Gran Paradiso since early December 2006, third party sources confirm that the next version of Internet Explorer is already cooking in the Redmond labs.

Internet Explorer 8.0 will be introduced at MIX 07, at the Venitian Hotel in Las Vegas between April 30 and May 2. One of the sessions at MIX 07 is addressed to designers and developers and is entitled: “First Look at the Future of IE.”

And if there is any doubt that the future of Internet Explorer is synonymous with IE 8.0, then here is the description of the session: “Hear what Microsoft's browser investments mean to you, and make sure you get a voice in shaping the next version of Internet Explorer. Hear about what features and layout issues are being worked on, and let us know what causes you the most problems.”

At the 2007 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Microsoft has confirmed that the development of Internet Explorer 8.0 has already debuted. Coincidentally, at MIX 06, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates promised that releases of Internet Explorer will be separated by 9 to 12 months maximum. In this context, Internet Explorer 8.0 should be launched towards the final quarter of 2008.

However, the Microsoft representative at CES 2007 pointed out to a period of 18 to 24 months until Internet Explorer 8.0 hits the market. Additionally, speculations reveal that Microsoft will not release an interim Internet Explorer version 7.x, but will rather concentrate its efforts on the development of IE8.

Another interesting supposition regarding IE 8 states that an alpha edition of Internet Explorer 8 has already been deployed in-house at Microsoft.

Higher numbered releases are bad for image. It looks like you can't get it right.

At my old company, when we got to version 15 of the main system I was working on, we rebadged it as 2.0 and went on from there. :smilie4:

That's not necessarily true, there could be new features to add in...Such as IE7 - tabbed browsing.

Also, IE 6 is as old as WinXP, no? 5 yrs? :ermm:

They'll just rename it IE2008 etc, just like all the other old software houses seem to be doing.

How does that tell us we'd see it soon? Didn't they start working on vista in 2003? :P

well.. if they could get rid of the hysterical "hold-the-world-i'm-doing-something-now" behaviour of IE (u know, like when a new page is loading and everything is just locked up until IE finds itself again)

..and, how many times have you been typing an URL in the address field, made an error and used backspace? (no, i DIDN't want to go back to the last page. really.)

..and how many times have you been researching something and realised that all your new info and urls are lost because IE suddenly crashed, freezed up or whatnot?

..if they can fix that i'll be happy.. but i'm an idiot for not changing to Firefox ages ago. really.

IE 7 for me. FF was too much maintenance for me. Both have their good features tho, I just prefer "plug and play" so to speak.

I'm the type that goes with what is stable and works. If IE8 is as impressive as firebox, by all means I will give it a go. IE7 and I don't get along to well, so I prefer Firefox atm. Also getting new apps is fun, you get to tinker and figure out all the new stuff. Ms should just give up and open source it. I pray one day the greed doesn't outweigh the good of the users.

i still can't believe that M$ is allowed to bundle IE with windows, it totally kills the competition and gives them a strong advantage to a shitty product!!

You wanna close this thread? Seeing as no-one seems interested in your post and just wants to voice support for FF.

Yeah, it's tempting. You maybe kidding, but I am going to do something. If anyone wanted to actually read, comment and maybe even add something they know about it then they should be able to post, of course.

Any further FF discussion that reaches off base about the main subject of the "Future of IE" will be considered off-topic therefore deleted. This includes comments such as: "FF, ftw", "FF user only", "Lookie me I have FF which is what I prefer", etc. It contributes NOTHING, ok? Thanks.

Sure hope they read this

Maybe M$ can look at where there going wrong with IE and improve by looking at wot firefox offers users .
Alot of users nowadays use firefox including myself so they are gonna have to do something better either way with the next gen IE8 and future releases .

Just caught this at Softpedia: Posts Video on Internet Explorer 8.0 – Download and Watch! (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Microsoft-Posts-Video-on-Internet-Explorer-8-0-Download-and-Watch-53795.shtml)

"Don't break the Web" ; "Compatibility is the root of all evil"

Hmmm, what is it that I've always said? Compatibility!!@#!!

Which fits in any software/hardware discussion...

Ex. Windows Vista

Just saw on JoeJoe that, according to Hotfix, IE 8's beta is planned for this year...

Have to say that i use firefox since i remember. But IE7 is alot better then IE6. Because FF uses alot of ram, sometimes i give IE7 a chance. And more, FF several times crashes when using java. :(
But, i still get along better with FF then with IE. Although, im waiting to see how IE8 is going to be, cus IE7 was way better than IE6.
