Finally.
Bought a 1991 Mazda RX7 the first week of December.
Due to the extreme weather conditions of the past two months it's been well nigh impossible to work on it much but my 60 day temporary tag was almost up and I needed to pass emissions to get tags.
Three weeks ago I bit the bullet, paid the $25 and gave it a go.

Failed.
High (barely) CO readings.

Paid a mechanic (self-proclaimed "expert"- long story) $190 to tune her up and get me through.

Failed again.
Sigh.

Now under a real time crunch I decided to take matters into my own hands...joined the RX owners club, read till my eyes crossed, spent a week freezing my ass off (had to work early in the morning and late at night- job, you know) and finally retested again yesterday.

Passed!

State records revealed that my car had been tested 5 times in the past 11 months and had consistently failed. The "enthusiast" owner I purchased it from never mentioned this little nugget and I considered demanding my money back but really love the car (if you've never driven a Wankel engined car you owe it to yourself to try one- it's a real kick in the ass!) and made it a point of pride to succeed where the others had not.

Now that's out of the way I can start the fun stuff.

Yippee!

well you could have called him a sucker or something, but well done for getting it going eventually. If you want something done properly, do it yourself as they say.

Congrats on passing...

Im a mazda owner aswell. Not the RX7 tho, but I do like 'em, a lot!

Ive got a couple of 323GTRs (bg8z). Man, I love em. They look crappy, but damm, have they got power, especially after modding.

Theres nothing better than doing your own work, under the bonnet.I use to take my cars to mechanics, but decided to join the right forums and start learning for myself. Now, im quite happy under the bonnet.

Congrats once again, and if poss, post a picture of the car..Would be nice to see...

Peace,

Mindfukced

What did you do that solve the problem that others missed?
Full tuneup.
Replaced some suspect vacuum hoses.
New O2 sensor.

And oh yeah...Ran the fuel down to about 3 gallons and added a gallon of denatured alcohol right before I went to the test.

Car drove kinda crooked.

Lovely.

I'll have to remember that one.

Well done, sir.

What sort of fuel is native to your area?

Is it one of the "special" ethanol formulations?

Oh yeah...we have "winter" and "summer" high altitude formulations.

My special blend would be the "New Year's Eve" blend.
