Can't say for certain, cos I can't find owt about that particliar model, but it ought to be so-dimm.

Maybe DDR, 200 pins.

I can look at it via the gift of opening the laptop. What numbers or stuff will I need to know.

:idunno:

TBH, I've never opened up a laptop, so I dunno what the sockets look like or how well they mark stuff up.

Hopefully they've labeled the sticks somehow.

Otherwise I reckon you could install some software to check it, I just dunno what to pick since I usually either know what I put in there in the first place, or the person whose 'puter I'm fixing owns something old enough to be recognized by the old, free Everest Home.

3D mark prolly works, but it seems a roundabout way of doing it, installing that.

Are you sure it's the right model number?
'cos I'm searching for a site still.

It's def MX3222b, I looked on it's arse. It may have been a model made for the specfic shop I suppose. That was Toys r Us believe it or not. Probly just one of the other models re-badged or something.

Kewl, I think I was getting close to finding you a manual.

But now I shan't bovver :snooty:

EDit: actually, be sure to note that it's DDR2, as well.

There seems to be two types, different numbers of pins. Will it tell me on the ram how many there are so I can buy the right type.

And also, can I just get a 1GB sodimm ddrII with the right number of pins and not worry about owt else.

Thanks for the help btw mate.

Since it's got an FSB of 400 megsihurts, maybe PC3200 would be ideal.
2700 would be cool too, f.ex.

As for the number of pins you want, if you know what you have now, it's easy whatever site or store you'll be shopping for will note the number of pins.

If you don't I guess you'll have to count :P

Still looking for that manual tho', 'cos it'll have information on your specs, but maybe it's re-badged as you say, 'cos I'm having trouble finding that model's documentation.

^This seems to answer everything.

FAQs (http://support.gateway.com/s//Mobile/Q106/MagicLC/1008894nv.shtml) > How do I add or replace memory modules... (http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/Q106/MagicLC/1008894fql.shtml) >
Q: How do I add or replace memory modules in this notebook?

A: This notebook uses 400/533 MHz DDR2 RAM Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Modules (SO-DIMMs) memory modules. Two 200-pin industry standard DDR2-SODIMM sockets are located in this bay.

Note: There is not a Slot 1/Slot 2 designation for the modules. Any module may be used in any available slot.

Either I'm too tired to think straight, or that site is stupid.

I think it is :snooty:

EDit: so DDR2, SO-DIMM, 200 pins, PC3200 or the next step up the ladder, I guess.

SnnY,

Cheers mate, that seems to be just the ticket.

Much appreciated old bean. I hope you don't get banned for giving hard-on advice in the wrong place.
