Hi Guys

I am a keen FF user.

Which are the extensions you use that you think would appeal to most users ?

Eg I use a Chinese character one which of course would not qualify as above.

So please give us your suggestions for your top 2 or 3

Regards

Well, I think it really depends on what your needs and expectations are of a web browser.

Go to the firefox site and browse through their extensions, reading the descriptions. If it sounds like you need it, install it.

One really good extension I would recommend to everyone is adblock, the purpose of which is self-explanatory.

A word to the wise though, don't install everything you come across, because each extension adds a little to the firefox footprint (which is already pretty big) and if you install a crapload of extensions firefox will quickly turn into a RAM munching behemoth.

adblock for sure with the filterset.g (search on google) filter list.
for gmail users the gmail notifier is great too.
Cutemenus is also neat as it adds icons next to menu items, but doesn't really add anything useful :P

If you're using a firefox version lower than 2 and like to use tabs then tabmix plus is good to have for configuring how tabs work.

Don't think you need a spellchecker anymore as 2.0.0.1 has it built in . Adblock is a must tho as Ross suggested . Sorry as spankmiester suggested . Word to the wise tho if you have FF setup how you like it don't upgrade willy nilly as some of your fav. extensions may not work .

Didn't you start a thread a while back like this? "What are your favorite FF plugins" or something?

I just found GSpace. It connects to Gmail and lets you share files between the two. It's pretty handy.

I just installed it today for my portable firefox, and now I can store more stuff than I could on my lousy 256 MB flash drive.

The list of extensions I use:

Duplicate Tab - self-explanatory
Flashblock - blocks flash from loading (but not downloading), until you click on the icon to activate it (so that it doesn't completely defunctionalize flash)
Gmail Manager - checks multiple gmail accounts and tells how much new mail you have
Greasemonkey - insert userscripts into webpages
Menu Editor - edit firefox menus
Mouse Gestures - use mouse gestures to execute common tasks
Nuke Anything Enhanced - remove things from webpages temporarily (the things show up if you refresh the browse)
Remove it Permanently - remove things from webpages permanently (the things never show up again unless you change the options)
Stylish - insert custom CSS to webpages.

Btw, for you IEtab users, I'm pretty sure that it causes memory leaks in Firefox: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensions

I use almost every extension mentioned so far, and I would like to add SmoothWheel (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/357/) to the list.
It's the kind of extension you don't notice until you can't use it(when you use ie for example). Very useful when reading online.

If you have a website that uses FTP, I recommend FireFTP, its useful.
Usage counter is good too. It tells you how much time you've spent on Firefox.

If you want an alternative to fasterfox (sparing you an extra extention which may slow down your start-time), you can manually do all your configurations with this guide:

http://www.tweakfactor.com/articles/tweaks/firefoxtweak/4.html

You can find a lot of stuff for both program and network performance enhancements in about:config, which is basically what fasterfox does (except for fasterfox's caching feature, I think). If you want the explanations of each of the about:config options, go here:

I've got these, off and on:

General surfing:
Adblock - for ads, obviously.
CustomizeGoogle - to get rid of some googlecrap adblock didn't catch.
Duplicate tab - to duplicate tabs complete with history.
IE tab - switch to ie-engine in tabs when you need it.
SuperDragAndGo - drag links to open them in new tabs (feature in maxthon I liked).
SwitchProxy Tool - for proxy management (will be looking for something better when I need it tho', it's not that brilliant).
VideoDownloader - for ripping stuff off youtube, google and other stuff.

For when I'm coding:
DOM Inspector
Firebug
HTML Validator
Web Developer
XML Developer Toolbar

But as someone said, don't use more than you need, it'll only slow you down.
