I xpect this question has been asked before but can anyone tell me how much slower I will download at if I let more upload from me. At the moment I have it set to let 3 upload at any time and I seem to download up to 50 Kbs. If I increase to say 10 uploads will this reduce my downloading speed by much. It is set at 3 cos that is the default setting

Base your upload max on how fast you can upload.

If your connection can upload at a total speed of <16KB/sec -- 3 uploads at a time is ok.
10 uploads at a time is excessive unless you can upload faster than 32KB/sec.

I usually let 3 or 4 upload from me, sometimes I&#39;ll leave for work & allow 10 or 15.
If there is something I want to download really badly I will only allow 1, but never 0 ;)

You&#39;d probably be better off setting it to 5-8 uploads when you leave for work... you may not have as much spare upload bandwidth as you think&#33;

Even 30KB/sec split 10 ways is at most 3 KB/sec each...

my isp allows a maximum 128k upload, and i recall from a previous post on this subject that allowing four slots to upload from my shared folder is of the greatest benefit at this "capped" 128k allowance, if that makes any sense.

I have 2 upload slots, always. Max upload speed : 32kb/s

My previous connection used to go slow when I was uploading at max speed, but this one still goes at 100% speed when I upload at max. That is good, since most of the time my connection IS at the max upload.

It might go a little faster for uploads and downloads if you told Kazaa that your limit is 32KB/sec -- if you haven&#39;t already. (32 KB/sec = 256 kilobits/sec)

With only 2 upload slots, I imagine MOST of the time your connection is uploading to 56k users. Sadly, the most they&#39;re likely to &#39;pull&#39; is 10 KB/sec combined -- unless you&#39;re sharing fakes. :(

Right on. Keep opening up more sends slots, and you&#39;ll see even more of your total bandwidth wasted. I&#39;ve found 2 sends slots is perfect to keep the speed up for other users. B)

Actually, I was implying there&#39;s a sweet-spot range which works best.

Being that MANY people can&#39;t download faster than about 5 KB/sec I use roughly 5 KB/sec (or 40 kilobits/sec) as the approximate amount for each upload slot.

So capped at 128 kilobits/sec (16 KB/sec) means:
128 / 40 = 3.2 uploads -- so 3-4 upload slots seems to work pretty good.

For capped at 256 kilobits/sec (32 KB/sec):
256 / 40 = 6.4 uploads -- however you can reduce that number a little (like to 4 uploads) and still be REASONABLY sure you&#39;re not wasting upload bandwidth.

If you have 256k upload bandwidth, setting uploads to 2 means any time 56k&#39;s get both your upload slots you&#39;re wasting between 22 and 30 KB/sec. And if you&#39;re sharing predominately 600+ MB movies, that can mean your connection can be tied up for hours or even days.
