I have hundreds of books stored electronicly. Many I get from online e-book sites, many are scrounged on the net either at other sites or via Torrent searchs. I can usually find waht I want in electronic format given enough time.

I have a good number of eBooks, but I'm not a real big fan of them. I get most of my books through half.com because you can find some real good deals - especially the sellers that represent libraries who are clearing up shelf space. Amazon also has a good mix of new and used stuff for a good price.

Question to all of the eBook lovers out there. How do you read the books? Do you spend the time printing them out or throw them on to your cell or Ipod? I like the idea of them, but don't see myself sitting at the computer for a couple of hours reading them. It's just too uncomfortable.

I have never read an ebook for long periods of time because like Bo0ddha said it can probably be very uncomfortable over an extended period of time. Its very covenient though i imagine

I have a large collection of ebooks - but i rarely read any of them. The most I can handle is a few magazine articles.

I generally read ebooks on my monitor. It's not really that uncomfortable to sit in my nice chair and scroll down occasionally. I don't have to hold a book, I can adjust font sizes etc, but reclining is difficult.

I've read hundreds of ebooks on various pda's that I have owned. I'm currently using a palm tungsten e2. The Palm Z22 pda would be a good starter, it's fairly cheap and can hold dozens of ebooks.

Mostly Internet bookstores (because I live in a country where english books are not very common), bookstores, downloading audio-books.

I've never found easy or convenient to read a book on a computer screen, so I don't eBooks, except computer/programming books where I search from time to time a specific answer to a problem. But I never read several pages on my computer screen.

Books are pretty expensive here so I usually go to this great cheap bookshop that gets all the seconds as in books the big chains didn't sell or ones that have slight font errors or whatever. about half to a quarter of the price and I haven't not been able to find a book I'm keen on yet I just have to wait.

Before I moved I got 99% of my books from the library. With Greasemonkey and a repurposed version of this script here http://www.mundell.org/2005/07/07/seattle-public-library-greasemonkey-script-part-2/ I could look at books on Amazon and it would automagically show me if it was in my library.

If your library's website has the name HORIZON on the bottom as their online catalog provider you can edit the script pretty easy to check your library.

I HATEHATEHATEHATEHATEthe library:(
even though I love being able to read the books there, I will never borrow one again.
late fees that are 3x the price of the damn magazine, or twice the price of the book are lame and I'm forgetful.

New books:wherever I get a giftcard for.

I am a huge fan of brick and mortar second hand book stores:)
I tend to buy books I am fairly certain they will take for cheap from garage sales, then trade them in on other books.
I avoid paying more then 2-3$ for Pbooks that way.
There are 2 good ones near me, incredibly helpful, and it's nice to have someone who really cares about books and is interested in similar subjects to help you find similar books, google hasn't got nothing on a good human being for that yet IMO.

For Ebooks I love donation supported books(cory doctorow etc)
I will happily send them some dollars, because they make it easy, and don't make getting their books into a huge hassle:)
I like supporting the people who make stuff a reasonable amount, I make things for my living and I like when people pay for them too.

I've looked at docs.torrents, elbitz, bitme, textbooktorrents, demonoid, but haven't found much fiction, although they do a good job on nonfiction.
Honestly, I just stick to the piratebay for fiction and obscure ebooks, a non-dedicated tracker is too small to find stuff like that on IMO.

Usenet for new books/magazines, encrypted download at 1.5 megabytes/sec is hard to beat.

I believe(hopefully someday I'll find out:)) that ebookvortex is the only really good private tracker for ebooks.

I usually get them from either amazon or the barnes and noble store at my local mall.
I'm not a big fan of ebooks. Reading books on a monitor just doesn't feel right to me, and those book readers like the amazon kindle are way too expensive at the moment.

Lots of books in IRC here:
Server: undernet.org
channel: #bookz

I read ebooks using ubook on my Dell Axim X51V.

Edit: When I said lots, I meant tens of thousands of books :).

This is where I get all my Ebooks from. I read them on my pocket PC phone. Very convenient.

Public Libraries, Barnes and Noble, Books-a-Million, and other book shops. Haven't ever used e-books, never tried to.

Book shops. Reading whole (e-)books on a monitor don't give the same feeling as reading the good ol' paper books.

anyway, having a book in your hands and browsing it is totally different by scrolling the pages up or down on a .doc or .pdf file.

If you are going to read Ebooks you need to read them in an Ebook format. They mimic a book a lot better than a standard document. It's still not the same thing but it's much closer. I also read on my PDA which means I don't have to stare at a monitor and can lounge like I would with a book.
