The topic says it all,so which gangster movie do you think is best??

Skillian

That is tough - there are so many great gangster films. The best has to be The Godfather (part 1 or 2, take your pick), but special mentions go to Scarface, Goodfellas and Carlito's Way.

Its got to be The Godfather part 2,
Part 1 comes in a close second

I don't think you'll find many that will disagree that the godfather series spawned the best gangster movies of all time. :D

I've never seen Blood In Blood Out, I'll have to give that a try. Good choice with Training Day - damn good film. Personally I was pretty disappointed with Road to Perdition.

For me Godfather Pt 1 edges out Pt 2, but it is a very close call. I think Pt1 is the more engrossing story, but then again you have no Robert De Niro. Either way, they are both in my top 5, maybe the top 2.

old school would be Scarface and Blood In Blood Out. new ones would be Training Day and Empire

Definitely Godfather 2 and 1 (in that order) are the tops, but I also thought Scarface and Goodfellas were great gangster flicks.

Hot Boys (real gangstA movie) has got to be the best. It's not about a bunch of bad acting Italians with Tommie Guns. It is more modern and realistic of what a gangster really is. Not all of the old nearly nonexistent gangs of the 40's. Just my oppinion tho. :D

Schmiggy_JK23

No doubt, godfather 2 is the best ever... with the 1st a close second.

Then scarface and goodfellas can battle it out. Other notables, casino, training day, god father 3, (yes, inferior to the first 2, but still solid)

soopaman

The Public Enemy

White Heat

Dillinger (Does this count?)

Scarface

Godfather Trilogy

King of New York

Goodfellas

Casino

Once Upon A Time In America

Get Carter

Villain

Performance

I think of these Goodfellas is my favourite, closely followed by Performance. Donnie Brasco is shite, nothing like the events that transpired in real life - it is supposed to be accurate but it's way off. Good acting though!! Lock, Stock and Snatch are just plain crap!! Fucking "fake Cockney" rubbish. Just my opinion. ;)

Whats with these english gang movies they gotta try to be more extreme

I do own Snatch and Lock stock, but I only liked brad pitts character
the jiberish speaking gypsy. And as for Lock stock I kind of feel ripped off .

And Donnie Brasco was based on a true story ,regardles its still got a great
screen play and script and the preformances are perfect.

Get Carter is a bonafide classic. I NEVER want to see the remake. EVER!!!!!!!! It's your opinion I suppose.

I don't particularly think English Gangster movies set out to be more "extreme and hardcore" the movies I mentioned are fairly representative of era they were set in. I forgot to mention another of my favourites THE LONG GOOD FRIDAY. Brilliant from start to finish. Faultless cast and acting and a brilliant plot. If you haven't seen it you've missed out. I'm assuming you're American (Sorry if you aren't :D ) , maybe it's because you can't relate to the "Britishness" of these films they are fairly heavy with slang and incomprehensible accents.

I was dissappointed with Donnie Brasco because I had read the book before I saw the film. Which is normally the way of things - books are invariably better than the subsequent films.

Last Man Standing -   A piss poor remake of Yojimbo. Bruce Willis is a fat, bald, joke of a man!! That film reeks of shit. :P

True Last man standing isnt very good.
I thought you were talking about the remake of Get Carter with Mel Gibson.
Now that was crap.Walken is my favorite,Im kind of biased

I understood all the accents ,slang and all .I guess when I say hardcore
I mean gangster #1,they tried so hard .It didnt seem believable .
When I say extreme Brick top Looks like the biggest geek and he feeds people to pigs,Why bother ?,and Bullet tooth takes a number of bullets
and some in the face dosent die.In the movie gets shot once and dies.

Lock stock they have a gun fight in the guys flat with the weed growing inside and the cops dont show up.Heavy automatic gunfire ,and I think the door was open at one point .

Practically every time you read a book before watching the movie your getting set up for disappoinment.

Wasn't trying to imply a lack of intellect with the slang thing. Sometimes the accents are hard to make out.

Bricktop, admittedly, looked a bit geeky. Remember it was the 1960's and he's just wearing the casual clothing of the time. All the fashions in the film are spot on. The suit Gangster wears is so sharp you'd cut yourself wearing it!! If you feed someone to pigs they eat everything, thus leaving no incriminating remains. Better than putting them in the foundations of buildings or motorway bridges, which was also popular in England in the 1960's.

As for Bullet Tooth taking a few bullets - Does the name 50 Cent mean anything to you?? He was shot in the face I believe and 8 times elsewhere on his body. He ain't dead (yet). Lock Stock is a crime against film and should be burned in some sort of Nuremburg-esque rally, then throw Guy Ritchie on the pyre!!!

Yeah but you gotta cutt the body into peieces put them in a car and then drive them to the farm.An accident waiting to happen, you know .
What if ? what if ?.

Just shoot the guy in the head w/ silenced gun and leave the body there.
Why dispose of it, why carry it,and why bothering cleaning the mess after you cutt the guy up.

And as for bullet tooth he dies from one bullet ,and 50 life hasnt been hasnt had any attempts on it since.
Guy Ritchie is the engligh version of a metally retarded Quinten Tarintino,
IMO.

A shooting would leave a chain of evidence and having a body would allow an autopsy. I know what you mean, the shooting of Samuel L Jackson in Goodfellas. Shoot and fuck off quickly. Plus most villains in London at the time had Jaguars which were considerably quicker than the Police cars!!

Payback is alright but not a patch on POINT BLANK. Lee Marvin rules!! Mel Gibson hasn't made a good film since Mad Max II.

nahan

What good is an autopsy when you shoot someone in the head and leave the gun w/the numbers filed off and of course no prints mind you.

In the pig farm method takes a few days to dispose of a body .Chop it up ,move it ,clean up all blood and dna for
that matter.

Too much trouble. For me my money is on the quick and fast
way ,less to sort out.

Payback was ok.Theres supposed to be a new mad max comming soon

Mad Max III was so lame it hurts me to think about it. Another sequel would be too much. What is Gibson saving for a new cathedral?? More kids??

As for methods of body disposal, I was just answering your original query. Personally, I'd put the corpse in an oil-drum with some sort of ballast then put some holes in the drum and throw it off my boat into the sea. A favourite of La Cosa Nostra, I believe.

I forgot all about State of Grace, which I own  , Gary Oldman is superb. It's not often the Westies get any recognition in films but this does them justice. Nice shootout at the end as well. Does Menace to Society count as a Gangster film?? It's not bad at all.

hmm..... best gangster movie? My all time favorite is scarface. Running a close second is Witness To The Mob. The hard-hitting true story of mobster Sammy "The Bull" Gravano, who was rechristened "King Rat" when, in an act either courageous or suicidal, he turned state's evidence against his boss, Mafia kingpin John Gotti. Originally aired on NBC. Produced by Robert DeNiro.
