View Full Version : if you're going to start a new tracker...

...how will you make it "different" from the others? i mean, what will you do to make sure others will notice your site and sign up and use it on an almost everyday basis?

of course, there's the usual like fast pretimes... good speeds... etc. but others have added "extra flavors" like a no-ratio system (LeechBits) or "freebies" if a certain rls doesn't get uploaded in time (like Ft.N).

i know a bunch of guys who are planning on starting a tracker but since there's so many out there, i figured there must be SOMETHING that (majority of the) people want that hasn't been done or implemented yet.

fire away! :)

1. A good source (TBDEV) and an eye pleasing look (look at RSR, iPlay or FTN).
2. Decent pretimes (in my case I wouldn't bother for a couple of hours)
3. Good community
4. Some nice packs + tracker own releases
5. Freebies like FTN.

upload 150 new and good torrents..
with uploaders with high upload speed..

Iam already finding it difficult to keep track of my account on all the trackers i like :)

one suggestion though .. Get some good staff members who have great patience and who arent really stupid cough* like *what one cough* HDBits *staff * did * cough* . Attitude of staff members can play a great deal in making it success

Make them respect other trackers too , a healthy competition is good but flaming others and trying to destroy the image of other trackers would only do harm to itself.

make it a specialty site, if you want any success. the last thing needed is another general 0day tracker.

open signups til you have 30000 users then close it for a year and let the 5000 best remain!

If a tracker doesn't have something new or unique to offer, then they don't need to waste their time. There are already more than enough of almost every type of tracker.

1. Good torrents
2. Very good Design
3. Some easy way to keep you're ratio okay ( NO bonus points)

and the most important thing:

GOOD STAFF!!!

Hype the site up before it opens.

Don't have open sign-ups until you need to.

Consider inviting people you trust into the tracker initially and then maybe open the forums up to anyone and have people apply to join through the forums.

And as someone else has also pointed out....good trustworthy staff.

Try to do some teams for special sections, like 4/6 teams for old tv eps, 10 teams for old movies, some teams for DVD-R (with a lot of subs for all dvd !!!) ... If you have a lot of dedicated uploaders (as I said before), your tracker will be verry attractive !

Someone needs to write new source. TBDev is dated beyond belief. Ersan seems to have at least started on something interesting at stdev.net. It's something the torrent community could really use.

TBDev is outdated? I suggest you take a closer look at Oink for example... :whistling

That very nice things can be done with TBDEV.

tbdev has alot of pre made mods that you can install

Virtually every tracker uses tbdev, no one's denying you can make sites look nice with it. Thing is, technology has changed, and a new source utilizing fewer resources, reducing server load and better functionality (better search, for example) would be a big improvement.

Technology hasn't changed that much as far as the combination of running a web server, MySQL and PHP. I've done a great deal of optimization at OiNK's Pink Palace, but at the cost of compatibility with the rest of the TBDEV world. That's not something that bothers us as we can code our own features. Quite a few people running trackers seem to just use what they can find on tbdev.net. When I look at that site I'm looking for ideas rather than actual code.

Back on topic, I'd like a tracker with every single scene release :P
A dream I guess, since that would need a whole bunch of uploaders and way too much traffic (around 1000-1500 releases each day afaik), but there is a lot of stuff that gets released and that can't be found on any tracker. And since I don't feel like paying for it, I miss it

I havent really seen any more/better options there than on any other TBDev based sites. Alot of other sites just chose to stop using the oinks buggy source codes when they were posted.

As far a specific stuff people would like to see on their favorite trackers. Maybe some of you guys/girls should voice your opinions on what you think should be added/removed from the site to make your experiences better.
Ex "I would like to see more HD content posted"
I know every couple of months on my own site we make a forum thread asking what people think we could do differantly. Ive seen a few other sites do this on occasion as well.
Speaking of .. its about time for another thread thanks for representing the idea.

I do agree with you Vercors most fast pre trackers race only some groups and they will be leaking to others ,in the scene they are a bunch of stuff thats even in newsgroups you cant find them if you want to success allow older scene releases to be uploaded look for a diffrents ratio system use freebies in popular torrents.allow users to upload in area51  , btw dont forget to make some ad in diffrents filesharing forums and privates trackers.

oink (as a site) have done an amazing job with their scripts .. they ve spent a lot of time on them (and it shows) and i for one have gotten a bunch of ideas from them to implement in my own trackers... they ve also worked a lot on performance (making db fields as big as necessary, changing their types, etc)..

one of the best code bases inmo by far...

I like lots of different user classes, because then you can truly differentiate between bad, good, and awesome members

Some specific guideline. Like Extremebits, Bitme, Bitmetv, Oink.
