My laptop got dropped (again) and now it won't charge up, I hope they'll fix it free of charge like last time.

To make this more of a thread than a blog-post, what is the most expensive thing you've broken through carelessness?

Me? I've broken this laptop twice, which makes me a double-idiot.

Spilled liquid (no not cream) on laptop, so i know how you feel.

Went joy riding in dads car as a kid. Ripped open the bottom of it without realizing. Next day my dad goes to work, car jams in the middle of the highway.
Took me a year of work to pay it back and sell everything i loved.

My Casio Exilim 750 digital cam (around $300 when i bought it). Well i didn't break it but i left it under the sun for a little too long while at the beach and for some reason the inks under the lcd screen started to appear that resembled a collage of some sort. Warranty didnt pay for it supposedly because lcd screens arent covered. bastards.

Most expensive I can think of right now is frying a cpu.
I can't even remember how anymore but somehow i ended up with 2 athlon xp 2000+'s when I built my first computer and the first one was only running at 1.2ghz (i didnt know i had to up the fsb to 133, it was at 100) so i swapped them wihtout putting new thermal paste and it fried within about 10 seconds.
I then got a replacement 2200+ :P

My next would be a motherboard i fried, which is also how i ended up with the second 2000+.
I didn't know i needed risers between the motherboard and the case/motherboardtray. :pinch:
When i returned it to the store they were nice enough to give me a new one and let me keep the old fried one.

When I was little, we had an ice storm (which doesn't happen often) and my Dad's truck was completely covered in ice. I went around the whole truck with a hammer breaking it off, real soft like.

The entire truck looked like it had hail damage.

He had to replace all of the body paneling. :pinch:

An antique oil lamp when i was about 17. I was cutting a pattern out of fabric on the floor and as i backed up i bumped into the table it was on, It wobbled - toppled - and fell off the table smashing the glass bowl part, to this day she has never been able to find a replacement glass bowly thing. The worse part was that the 1st thing my mum did when she came running at the sound of breaking glass was to burst into tears - I still feel bad even though it was an accident.

:O Thats a coincidence..same thing happened to me, just after following your famous and extensive guide for tweaking windows ( which I can't find here anymore)

I once fucked up when changing the beer in a pub I worked at and accidentally poured a whole barrel of Labbatts away.

Didn't you go, "Oh fuck, there's beer in this barrel. I better tip it up again."?

Having said that, Labbatts is Canadian beer and is thus worth about 1/4 of a normal pint. So no great waste then.

For that evil deed you should have been incarcerated and forced to eat mouldy cheese for 6 months :)

Something like that.

My manager made me add on a half pint of Labbatts to anyone's bill who looked too drunk to notice. Long story short we ended up with a massive surplus of Labbatts after a month.

I broke a commercial bandsaw back in junior high. Fucked if I know how, but I didn't have to pay for it and learnt the important lesson that I do not belong anywhere near manufacturing equipment.

Edit: Several weeks later, one of the shop teachers sliced his finger off. He didn't learn.

Not a cunting chance in hell, judging by the hour and a bit spent on the phone to them, arguing the toss. Complete con buying extended warrenty then the bits most likely to get broken are not covered, though strangely they were before. Also a complete con that a pin breaks and they cant replace just that pin without replacing the motherboard too. Rubbish. Of course they fucking can. Bunch of moneygrabbing shits. They're based in Plymouth so I'm going to go and throw broken laptops through their windows.

I just looked on Google, you can get new pin connectors for £30. There is no need to replace the whole cunting motherboard for £380.

Especially considering this: http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/123115

I sent you that info to your email you chav, and flatmate is happy to do the repair, depending on what damage there is to the laptop.

I think that they don't trust the monkeys they employ to do the repair with fiddly things and just make them replace stuff. I know some people that work up there and they've all got sausage fingers and a bit of a drool.
