Rip Audio From An .mpeg/.mov

Here's a solution which I'm sure will be solved easily:

I have a cd (came free with newspaper) and it has four tracks plus a video. The video is really good and is a live performance and I really wan't to get the audio from that and have it on cd, so how can I do this?

The .mov file is on the cd and I have copied it to my hard drive and tried changing the extension. It works when converted to mpeg but not mp3 so anyone know what to do?

basically, I want to rip the audio from a video and have it on audio cd.

I think you can use virtualdub to extract the audio to wav then burn to cd. Here is a guide VCDhelp.com (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/divxtovcd)

i have a funny fealing .mov files are kinda hard to copy.

If using soundblaster you can run RECORDER then 'what you hear' to record it as a wav then code it in mp3 (sorry, don know what software to use) ;)

AVI2VCD comes with a separate, simple audio extraction tool. I've only used it on AVIs but never an MPG file. Anyways, it's free if you wanna try it. (click here (http://www.digital-sea.com/cgi-bin/detail.cgi?ID=155))

You should be able to do it with TMPGEnc, as long as you have the QT Plug-in (http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/4942/svcd.html). Try this...

1. Cancel the wizard that pops up when you run TMPGEnc.

2. Select your .mov file for the Video Source.

3. Go to File - Output to file - Wave file.

4. Select desired output settings and hit the Start button.

If that doesn't work try outputting to AVI file, then use Virtualdub to extract the audio.

i think the "pro" version of quicktime has options not included in the regular version, to export just the audio or just the video to a new file (wav, mp3, etc).

Yes it does, but unfortunately it only extracts audio in .mov format. Then you still need to use another program to convert it to something more usable. Ya gotta love Apple. :rolleyes:

Thanks alot for all your replies, I've been trying to solve this for ages now!

Here's what I done incase anyone in future want's to do the same:

1. Played the video clip (.mov) and went to Edit > Extract Tracks

2. Saved it, so now it's an audio .mov file

3. Played the audio and went to File > Export and chose 'sound to wave'

4. That's it!, now I'm gonna burn it on cd and enjoy :)

I guess I was wrong, then. :( I tried extracting audio with QT, but I never knew you could open the new .mov file and convert it to .wav. Why don't they just let you save it to that format when you extract it in the first place!

I guess it's because people who have paid for the pro version are more likely to base their whole media editing around it, so wouldn't need to have the option untill the "final product" when it could then be exported.

But then again, it wouldn't hurt to have a little pull down menu would it?
