The question for you is, what is the size of files and codec you will most likely download?
If the answer is the full HDDVD and BD rips at 20+ GB, then the two sites have similar content. I think hdbits beats bit-hdtv in speed though. However, if the answer is converted rip-to-x264 files (at DVD5 and DVD9 sizes), then I think hdbits wins in terms of more availability.

hdbits is pretty good and mostly faster by releasing the new HD stuff. They also got some own encodes, that are not on bit-hdtv. But hdbits is not so much in HD-Pron like bit-hdtv.

If you're looking for movies in x264, x264.eu is your best bet.

How does one go about getting an account on one of these sites? It appears that you have to know somebody or something? I just got a beefy HTPC going the other day and have a newfound interest in downloaded HD content...before it was just choppy enough to not be of great interest.

Wait for a month, get your post quota and go to the invites section. Then make requests. It helps if you have something to offer in return, though.

You can start with hd-bits.ro. I think it's open for signups and is good enough to start with.

I agree, hdbits is the way to go. Especially if your not looking for pron.

Agreed. It's got a nice variety of 720p x264 encodes, both old and new, and the seeders are coming back (from their extended downtime a couple weeks ago). Their bonus system is the easiest to get points of all the trackers I've seen, so you can either trade in the points to build up an impressive upload ratio, or leech a bunch of HD content and still maintain a 1:1 ratio.

Later request bit-hdtv and x264 invites and then try to trade for hdbits.org.

HdBits is the best for the greatest choice of film (x264 720p) and TVShow. The speed is very very good but it's very hard to maintain a ratio 1:1 BitHDTV has less stuff but it's easy to maintain a good ratio because there is always leechers.
