we have the one that plays VCDs as well, the quality is exactly the quality the file is, not the player

its nice for the dvd alone

It plays very well. Have one installed at friends.
Was the KiSS DP-500

Is nice to burn a divx.avi and play it in your dvd player... B) Btw it has lan connectivity (for firmware updates) it supports subtitles and it has a webradio... !! Think this is the future :)

"The most flexible DVD player available! Works with DivX and XviD format CD & DVD media (.avi) but also plays MP3's stored on DVD media (4.5 gig of MP3's! on one disk) and can stream audio, video and radio content from LAN via ethernet connection and much more."

Kiss webpage.. (http://www.kiss-technology.com/)

btw it has a helpdesk that reacts and solves problems!!

yes just like data, add the *.srt (subtitle file) in the same name as the movie and it plays with the movie..!

divx 3 and up
is this correct? last i heard, it did not support divx 3 because of legal issues with microsoft.

edit: hmm, it looks like the Kiss DVD player has a firmware upgrade which includes a work-around for Divx 3.

KiSS DVD Player "learns" DivX 3.x

"Good news from KiSS Technologies and DivX network, for DivX fans who want to watch their movies in the living room. As the Danish DVD Player manufacturer communicated and demonstrates on its CeBIT conditions, the model DP-450 is able to play DivX 3.11 due to a new firmware... although the Sigma decoder chip (EM8500) is not designed to. Before, the equipment could only process DivX 4.x, XviD and DivX 5.0.x (Pro).

This is made possible by an 'on-the-fly' transformation of the non-conformant MPEG-4 components of DivX 3.11 movies by the firmware into data streams digestible by the decoder chip. It can also play DivX Pro videos with Global Motion Compensation (GMC) after the firmware update. Only Quarter Picture Of Element (Qpel) encoded DivX movies cannot be played yet, but we are confident that playback of these movies will be reached.

Also, Sigma Designs' PCI card with DVD decoder and DivX playback named 'Xcard' will be able to play DivX 3.11 and DivX Pro with GMC through firmware updates. If KiSS holds up, which it promises to, one of the main points of criticism of the DivX capable DVD Players (i.e. that it cannot play 75 percent of all DivX videos, constituting the lion's share at the moment), would be void."

Q05: Does the DVD-Player support DivX 3.11?
No, KiSS DVD-Players does not support DivX 3.11, but we are planning to release a firmware that supports DivX 3.11. This firmware will probably be released around the start of June 2003.

Is there a ink for this. I like the look of the kiss one, but if there's an alternative I would like to compare them. I didn't realis there was more than one available.

i'm not sure if the mpeg 1 content still has to conform to VCD/SVCD standards... but mpeg 4, yeah you can just burn it as a data CD and it goes. refer to jetje's post in this thread.
