Please tell me what software you install immediately after installing Windows.
I don't mean drivers or stuff like that but just software that you can't do without.
Or to put it an other way: What software has become an absolute necessity to you?

Mine would be UltraBar (http://www.ultrabar.com). (Customized of course)

These are my essentials in this order

Regcleaner (freeware) + easycleaner (freeware) for cleaning the registry (also use tweak-xp registry cleaner if on xp) run them all for best results, but they don do it all so use regedit as well if you are brave

ZDELETE windows bleaching program like windows washer but better in my humble opinion it has a bin on the desktop, very useful

zonealarm (freeware) firewall
antivir (freeware) anti virus
ad aware (freeware) removing spyware
Xp antispy (freeware) stop microsoft taking over world
tvtool 6.5 tv out for nvidia cards

scrub-xp (freeware) button on taskbar to reset desktop and clear url history temp internet files etc like a panic button

if you are not purchasing the progs then i would suggest freeware because of the updates essential for antivirus and firewalls

File: RegCleaner.exe

Manny Calavera, it's better to get freeware from a site directly. ;) After all it's free & 0% chance of file corruption & newest available versions.

Which is exactly what i meant. ;)

I like to install my registry cleaners first, and then just clean before and after installing anything else, anal i know but hey it works for me

and remember when its all done, Defragment then create a system restore point

When i was using winMe i did this once every couple of months, now on Xp pro and doing it every 4-6 months.

The first things I install is drivers for all my software as they are often better then what XP used during installation. Then it's the BT internet software followed by AVG and zone alarm. Next K-lite and there rest well, I install when needed. :)

No, I don't do it for fun.

I do it because I don't have the money to buy the programs I like. I understand the amount of work put into making these programs, and that just by me downloadin it I have ripped off the software company. Re-selling pirated software is just immoral.

What do you mean?
Did you know you can DL any software from any site even if it costs $500.00 and then just go and look for a serial number or crack.
There are many fine places to get them.
Crackfind.com is one of my favs!
Morality Shmality.
I don't want to hear that crap.
I get sick and tired of people in this forum even posing the question.
The mere fact that your even in this forum suggests you DL all kinds of copyrighted material.
Probably everyday!
You don't have a moral leg to stand on.
So everyone please shut up on the morality thing.
Ok?

Actually UltraBar (http://www.ultrabar.com) isn't really the first thing I install. You are right, I install Norton Antivirus first. I am on a router so I have no personal firewall. Winrar is also something I install right away. I have XP but I don't like it's archive support. Some other stuff I find myself installing (after I've done some serious Windows configuration and tweaking, I use microsofts TweakUI for that) is:

Popup Block (http://www.popupblock.net/) (very small popup blocker, the best i've come across, even better than Meaya's Popup Ad Filter)
Winamp (http://classic.winamp.com/) (2 of course)
IrfanView (http://www.irfanview.com/) (old version, I dont like the new one)
ICQ (http://web.icq.com/) or Trillian Pro (http://www.alltheweb.com/search?q=Trillian+Pro&c=ftp&cs=utf-8) (I think they both suck but everybody uses them :) )
If Miranda IM (http://www.miranda-im.org/) gets a little better I think I will be using that.
Messenger Plus (http://www.msgplus.net/index.php?view=download) Very good messenger add-on (If I didn't install Schmillian)
Babylon Translater (http://www.babylon.com/) (That proggy I miss very quickly)
HideOE (http://www.r2.com.au/software.php?page=2&show=hideoe) (little program that enables you to minimize Outlook Express to the system tray in order to have email notification without having to keep OE in your taskbar all the time)
WinBar (http://www.winbar.nl/) (an extra taskbar that displays system info (mem, cpu, upload/download, and much more, very configurable)
uICE (http://www.mediatexx.com/) (to use my remote control to control winamp and everything else on my puter. TV-card needed)
after that I install stuff whenever I need it. (Nero, K-Lite, Emule, NetLimiter etc)
