I didnt know where to post this so I put it here(think its most relevant).

I was wondering what are the pros and cons for flashing vs modchip.

I'd tend to go for flashing since its cheaper and easier to do but I'm just wondering is there a downside to flashing?

With the PSP they update the firmware and some new games only work with the new firmware so you have to wait for the new firmware to get cracked and then flash it and get your new games.

I'm wondering if its the same situation with the 360.

Supposedly the modchip doesnt touch the original firmware it just puts its own firmware in when the chip is activated, if you turn the chip off your console is just the same as a non-modified one.

If you have to keep flashing your 360 I think it would be better just to buy the modchip.. is that the case?

With flashing I think you cannot access Live unless you unflash it ( is it possible?) and with a modchip, you can just flip a switch and you can get your drive back to normal and be able to access Live.

I think you can flash it with the normal firmware to get it back to normal but apparently everytime you flash your console you risk messing it up so I don't think its worth it.

I'm not really a big online gamer not sure if I'll be using Live I use online services mostly on the PC

If you've got the cash then I would get a modchip if I were you, I mean you never know if there will be that one game you wanna play online. Although if you know you will never be playing on Live then just flash it. Or just flash it and then get a mod chip when you need to use Live.

Thats some good advice actually I could always get a modchip later, they cost a bomb now anyways.

Thanks I'm going to do that

You just gotta wonder how long the flash trick is going to work with Live.

I personally would wait. You could get a mod chip now, but in 3-4 months, when the exploit becomes more mature, there will be other mod chips out that will allow backups + homebrew.

So I recommend no soldering to your motherboard and flash the drive yourself to leave the motherboard clean for a future chip.

That's if you want more than to boot up backups.

Flashing is the best way to go cuz when the dashboard gets updated and you can't play anymore all you need to do is reflash it to the factory default. The problem with modding is that when the machine finally gets blocked you'll be stuck with an expensive paperweight.
