Old ones.

Most people would agree the old trilogy is better than the new I think.

Lord of the Rings is not a "trilogy".

Neither is Star Wars.

Please get it right:snooty:

Why isn't LOTR a trilogy?

macking

LOTR is a trilogy, its three movies, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King.

When talking about Star Wars George Lucas released it as "the original trilogy" and then he released the three other movies on their own.

George Lucas himself sees its as the old trilogy(4, 5 and 6) and the new trilogy(1, 2 and 3).

If you actually farking read the LOTR books, in the fellowship of the ring it explicitly states that LOTR is NOT a trilogy.

It's a common misconception. Noob.:dabs:

How the fook could you not consider LOTR a trilogy?? Surely he's referring to the movie.

Just to clear up your obvious confusion:

The books wouldn't be considered a trilogy because LOTR is a sequel to The Hobbit.

One of the most popular "trilogies" of fantasy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantasy) books, The Lord of the Rings (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lord_of_the_Rings) by J. R. R. Tolkien (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._R._R._Tolkien), is not a trilogy, though it is often referred to as such. Tolkien regarded it as a single work and divided it into a prologue, six books, and five appendices. Because of post-World War II (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II) paper (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper) shortages, it was originally published in three volumes. Sir Stanley Unwin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanley_Unwin_%28publisher%29), Tolkien's publisher, also split the novel into three parts to garner separate book reviews for each book of the 'trilogy', and thus (hopefully) spike book sales. It is still most commonly sold as three volumes, but has also been published in one-volume and seven-volume editions (as it is also split into six books and the appendices). However, as we're in Movieworld I'd say it's safe to assume that he meant the films which were in fact made as a trilogy. Any noob knows that. :dabs:

In answer to the thread starter, I liked the original Star Wars trilogy the best. Far more exciting, the heroes are less black and white than LOTR, the characters are infinitely more interesting and it's about 18 hours shorter in total.

:dabs: That's not even a good rod.

Oh and the original Star Wars Trilogy is better by leaps. It was ground breaking.

LOTR's trilogy was not. What made LOTR stand out was simply the number of CGI characters that were put on screen at once. It made the battles look epic (that's done a lot nowadays....300, Chronicles Of Narnia, etc).

Star Wars story & characters > LOTR's as well

Also Cheese is right. LOTR was too fucking long

"18 hours shorter".

When you watch Star Wars as a kid, you want to be Luke Skywalker.

When you watch Star Wars as a teenager, you want to be Han Solo.

When you watch Star Wars as an adult, you want to be Darth Vader.

I don't know of any other films which appeal to all ages, like those :smilie4:

I would have to say that the original Star Wars is better than LOTR. By a long margin. It redefined a genre (almost created one), it was innovative. And the characters are much denser than the LOTR ones.

With that said, if Lucas didnt make the 2nd trilogy (or the 1st as you prefer), nothing much would have been lost.

Oh so you aren't 20?

LOTR didn't come out in '01?

Tbh, some of it might have to do with

the sour taste that the prequel Star Wars trilogy gave many
the innovation that the first trilogy gave many that it did not give younger viewers since CGI was already the norm
the "OMG THEREZ A SHITLOAD OF PEOPLE FIGHTING ON SCREEN AT 1ONCE!!1!1!" from LOTR
