View Full Version : uTorrent v. Azureus

I read on the torrentleech FAQ that you should use either Azureus or uTorrent . I have been using Azureus for a while, and its fine. But which one is considered better?
For me, uTorrent is better because it has all of the features of Azureus (at least all of the ones I used), and because it isn't as much of a resource hog as Azureus (Java...).

azureus seems to use much more memory than utorrent. they're pretty much the same otherwise.

They both do the same thing, but uTorrent is more 'lightweight' - it uses less resources and therefore enables your computer to run faster than if you were using Azureus.
So if you were looking at it from that perspective uTorrent is the better client.

i tried to used utorrent first but got a problem regarding internet speed. Everytime i used utorrent in our office the internet connection of my boss and my co worker are become slow. I almost got fired..... that's why i changed to Azurues. But i think i just missed some configuration on Utorrent.

Azureus can do more things than uTorrent (including support for plugins), but it's just a matter of personal preference - try both.
As for myself... Azureus. But I'm biased. :D

thx, i've gotten both to see which is better. Also, is there a way to transfer your torrents from one client to antoher? I have many files uploading on azureus, but i decided to switch to uTorrent, but i also don't want to not be able to seed those files, any suggestions?

You can export the torrent files from the downloads from Azureus (Advanced > Export) menu - I don't know if there's any easy way to get µTorrent to find the files you're after (without specifying the path manually).

The answer is a pretty Emphatic "uTorrent".
FFS, who'd be stupid enough to give up RAM just for kicks(unless you have 2 gigs(which most of you do)), but we 512 folks stick to uTorrent, and noone says no to a faster app. Whats more, uTorrent also has the bosskey feature, thats all i need =p

I'll try and state as many facts about each as I can. Keep in mind, though, that being on a rather low-end laptop I am forced to stick with utorrent, although i did start out with azureus 1)utorrent uses less ram. i once had 100 active torrents and i only used 20mb ram and just as much cpu as utorrent always uses when i use all my bandwidth. azureus uses java, which basically takes over your computer. 2)utorrent is more easy to configure/setup and get going. with azureus, there are just so many options everywhere it can drown a noob (it frustrated me, that's for sure) 3)on the positive side, however, if you are want to get into deep configuration settings, azureus it your man. 4)most people who are open-source supporters will use azureus instead because it is open source, and utorrent isnt. 5)both utorrent and azureus have been tested to be equally fast. azureus just uses more ram :? 6)azureus does have plugins, unlike utorrent, including the popular plugin that blocks ip addresses that can block anti-p2p organizations and the govt. on the other side of the coin, however you can use the ever-growing peerguardian with utorrent and block up to 20 different lists. peerguardian's anti-p2p list always gets updated personally, i'd choose utorrent simple because whatever azureus can do, utorrent (or a utorrent and peerguardian combo) can do just a good - but using less ram. utorrent is just clean, simple, and hot.
sorry for not spacing out my post, but i am new here and for some reason i can't make paragraphs. :/

It's not much of a choice for those of us who don't run Windows.
Azureus sees heavy use on my Linux media center box.
Azureus + ScaneRSS to autodownload new TV episodes + AutoSpeed to keep my bandwidth from being too saturate to websurf (or use my voip phone) + SafePeer for rogue IP blocking + console UI for command line access + HTML web UI for remove web-based access.
That combined with a tunneling proxy from my colo'd webserver and I can remotely monitor and control Azureus from work or on vacation.
And who can't love that?

I've only used utorrent myself, but I've assisted other friends who have used Azureus. Nearly every last one of them converted over to utorrent after seeing how it ran on my computer. It's simple, easy, doesn't take up much HD space, and doesn't hog all your resources. That last seems to be the overall selling factor.
