View Full Version : Ignore Function

I've just made a small change to the ignore function of the forum which will actually make it way more powerful.

What the changes are is that ignored user's threads are not shown on the ignore list, they might not be shown on the online-users list (haven't tested this yet), and there is now no more message saying their post is blocked.

The only downside to this is that moderators now can't ignore users but, imo, that's completely unnecessary anyway. :)

Enjoy and let me know of any bugs!

Nice one. Well worth the change.

Moderators being able to ignore users would be a bad thing anyway. They wouldn't be able to do their job.

Can you add an ignore thread function as well. That would also be good.

Cheers again, mate.

I can get into the $20 thread now because I've un-ignored Alien5 who made a lot of posts in there. However, before then I could go to the first page fine, even make a post in the quick reply box. However, I couldn't view the last page at all (it'd time out if I tried).

I don't think so because Alien5 hasn't been posting (he's off my ignore now), though I'm no expert I would think it would have something to do with the sheer volume of posts Alien5 has made in that thread. All other threads are thing as far as I can see.

What the fuck ? I'm almost ashamed to admit I belong to this forum . If its just the ignore function I could understand ,when names are mentioned I have a problem with that . I suggest you mods show some class and close this hurtful thread .

Sorry if it was my name not others I'd feel the same way , it's tactless and full of malice , should be locked and deleted .

JPaul

What, are people not going to get your respect Peat.

What would the point be in locking it if they were going to delete it. That doesn't even make sense.

How is it hurtful, it's what Adster wants, attention. That's why he starts loads of threads, loads of pointless threads. That's what people don't want to see. It spoils it for everyone as the real threads are dropped off the page.

I've taken Adster off ignore now because he has stopped making duplicate threads and bumping old crap threads. If he wants to act like a cawk he can expect to be treated like a cawk.

Anyhow, it's probably best we did name who we were blocking as it helped in the troubleshooting process (ie we figured out that blocking Alien5 caused the ignore function, as it was modded, to break because of the huge number of posts he made in the $20 thread). You'd hate MCHeshpant's sig...

I thought the whole point of the lounge was to post goofy or heart felt threads about what ever and where ever ? Thats what made it different in my eyes , its suppose to be fun ?

Now we complain about duplicate posts and someone who doesn't play by the rules ? Oh shit there goes the neighborhood .

Now we complain about duplicate posts and someone who doesn't play by the rules ? Oh shit there goes the neighborhood .I said duplicate threads not duplicate posts. Basically the first 4-5 pages of the Lounge index were threads made by Adster and a couple of others, most of them duplicates. Effectively meaning I couldn't see the Lounge for his crap.

I thought the whole point of the lounge was to post goofy or heart felt threads about what ever and where ever ? Thats what made it different in my eyes , its suppose to be fun ?That's what we were trying to do, but an attention whore decided he would spoil everyone else's fun. With the ignore function now in place, if he or some other loser hilariously tries it again then I just put them on ignore and I can see the lounge again. And I will be "tactless and full of malice" towards these type of attention whores, especially if they think what they are doing (spoiling the lounge) is funny or in any way acceptable.

Other people use the lounge, so just starting loads of threads with no point just spoiled it for everyone else. It meant that you couldn't see anything else. In fact on a couple of occasions he said he was going to drop everything else off the front page.

People told him that it was annoying and by his attitude he replied "fuck you". So why should people not mention his name, he didn't give a fuck what they wanted.

The ignore function allowed people to enjoy the threads without seeing a page full of crap. If he stops doing that, then I feel no need to have him on ignore. I've said this before as well. I don't want Adster on ignore, but it was the simplest way to solve the problem.

Basically the first 4-5 pages of the Lounge index were threads made by Adster and a couple of others, most of them duplicates. That really was annoying to see multiple threads that really served no use. Kept some of the 'fun' threads off the fontpage of the section. I agree to that, shame on that user :nono:

There was also a server issue around that time where some threads were duplicated like 6 or 7 times. All had the same title tho' and it happened in other parts of the forum, too. Come to think of it I don't think it happened in the Lounge...Those annoying threads had different titles anyways.

Hokey Dokey.

You're a pathetic fucktard, seeking external validation. You have a "Zorro Complex" and think you are standing up for Adster's rights. In spite of the fact that this type of thread is exactly what he wanted in the first place. That doesn't really matter to you though because it's not about him. It's about you feeling better about yourself. Feeling superior to people who decide to ignore that which annoys them

Your command of the English language is at best questionable. Though to be fair the fact that you post in spite of that is to your credit.

You rarely read what other people actually post. Instead you presume what they mean, based on your own preconceptions of who they are.

In the unlikely event of you ever having an original thought the chances are you will have a migraine. Resulting in decent spelling, grammar and syntax.

In short, you are the worst kind of internet quasi-snob. You decry other people, without having the common decency to actually consider what they have posted.

It was Adster who was in the wrong, deliberately setting out to annoy as many people as he could. He even said he was doing it FFS.

I would like to help but that's unfortunately not possible, due to my configuration; you are in my ignore list, so your posts just don't show up.

Another post I am not able to answer due to an excellent working ignore button. Sensing the possibility of members sensing I might write such a post, here is my reply. As I already have pointed out; in the lounge we never (ever) read such insignificant posts. We only read the last post, not the first or any of those there in between. ( except of course the naykid wimin threads) which we check thoroughly. That's what adds the unique "flavour" to posts made by "seasoned" forum members. That's what it is all about. Sometimes they may appear arrogant but if you read what I wrote here above, ( knowing you also to be a Lounge Lizard) you will have more understanding, and not mention the obvious :)

Presuming, as always of course, you have not also added me to your ignore list..

One side effect, the thread is telling me it has 5 pages but only goes to page 3, if I click on the '5' it takes me to page 3. Obviously the extra pages are the ignored people. (I don't think I'm explaining it very well but go to a thread where someone has posted a lot and you have them on ignore and you'll see what I mean.)

It's nice not seeing the ignored people at all, but the going to the next page thing is frustrating.

Agreed on both counts.

Although reading quotes that seemed to come from nowhere was really confusing at first :dabs:

That's weird. The quote snap back thingie also seems to be broken as well. Possibly ignore related.

Why'd you do that? It was working fine when it was turned off.

Apparently now I can see the threads that people on my ignore list started. I liked that feature.

Put it back, put it back, put it back.

It was working fine when you could see that they'd posted but not the content of their posts or their threads :dabs:

Why is it different now?

No, you dipstick.

When the topics are hidden it all works fine.

When the posts are hidden then things start breaking.

No, when I turn on my hack to make the topics hidden things start breaking.
Since the latest vbulletin update.
What can I do?:(

You could have explained that before, you berk. How was I supposed to know an update broke the ignore function if I didn't even know the board was updated.

How about un-updating the board, it's not like it made anything else noticeably better.

Or rewrite the hack, that would probably be a sensible idea.

Why don't you make a topic about recent board updates, modifications and hacks you do....cause I just randomly stumble upon them...

And the fact that no one has me on their buddylist was quite...well...

Just noticed having myself as a buddy doesn't list me in my own buddylist :sneaky:

I used to have one in team chat, but no one was interested 'cause i was only one to post in it.

I always post here about big things (or reality does it) or major new vbulletin updates (3.0->3.5, 3.5->3.6).
I don't post about the minor bug fix releases though (3.6.5->3.6.6, 3.6.6->3.6.7 coming).

Anyway I'm almost constantly doing small changes to the site. If you really want a thread to ehar about all of them then I could start one.

Should do it, like weekly "Hey I added the trophies back and an option to hide you buddylist friends view in profiles" n'such.:)
