I had a similar problem this afternoon, but it seems to be fixed. Working fine now.

That is really weird, I just signed it at school too and it's totally fine. You guys haven't had any major changes in your internet setups or firewalls, have you?

When I'm at school, I don't really have problems with gmail but I get many more warning messages about potential unsafe content and I know in one lab in a particular area of the school doesn't allow any unsafe content so most connections just time out.

But I have no idea if that is your problem, especially if all of a sudden it stopped working.
