I just had a check of that site. Whata terrible layout. So hard to search anything.

Has anyone else got any suggestions?

surely there must be a search site that lists say 300 searches per page. I put in alot of titles and they didn't even come up. I thought binsearch was meant to have all the major news groups? What a flop this USenet thing is.

Just change the "Results per page". :dabs:

It does. What are you looking for?

What a flop this Usenet thing is.

Yes, what a flop. It's only host to literally millions of files.

You said yourself that you're a "real novice". Why not take a moment and ask some specific questions before jumping to conclusions?

Most of the files I try and download go into error. What a real disappointment this is.

Again, some details and an actual question would help if you want answers.

What news server are you using? Your ISPs?

That appears to be your client. What server are you using?

Giganews, etc.......

By the way, I recommend GrabIt as a client.

Is nzbmatrix a Server? If so then is binsearch also regarded as a server?

Is nzbmatrix a Server?

No.

I'm trying to determine who your news host is.....

What does your client say here:

Is internode your ISP?

Yes it is my ISP in Australia.

It provides a free Usenet service - 40 day retention. Apparently it feeds off SuperNews in the US

That's pretty damn good binary retention for an ISP. I think mine (and most) offer like 4 days.

That's probably why your getting a lot of error though. ISP news server are notorious for it, I think.

If your looking for a good host, I'd suggest Giganews.

OK here is where I am really confused.

I have downloaded GrabIt and have performed a search on "allgroups" I put in the phrase 70's and up came the following list:

alt.binaries.sounds.1970's.mp3 The article count is 36613

My problem now if how do I actually access all of these articles. If I doubleclick on the above it does not do anything. If I right click it asks me to subscribe. Now what do I do.

PLease help. Also why does GrabIt look more like a server rather than a client? :)

i hate grabit it has problems with the larger groups.

I would try ike's (http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/newsgroups/t-newsgroups-guide-newsleecher-122289) newsleecher guide. it does a good job of explaining things.

also 40 days retention for an isp is pretty good.

That's not good advices. Those P2P networks have lots of viruses, and there are even some fake files -- it's horrible, horrible I say!
