2 X 512 RAM Vs. 1 X 1 GB

i 'm about to buy 1 GB ram 184 pin DDR 3200
i was just wondering if there is any performance difference in running with 2 X 512 or 1 GB?

It depends. Does your motherboard support dual channel memory?

It would also be helpful to know if you'll want to upgrade to 2 GBs or more later on.

yes it does support the dual channel, i have Asus A8V deluxe
and i alredy have 1 gb(2 x 512) ram installed on my system. I was just curious to know about the best combination of having sticks joint to gether!! i remember once i red about it somewhere but i don't remember the details now that i need them!
4 X 512 or 2 X 1 GB or even 2 X 512 + 1 GB in order to have 2 GB ram over all!!!? thats my question.

if you plan on getting 2gb then get 1x1gb.

Worst possible situation is probably 2x512MB + 1x1GB, I doubt if any motherboard can give you dual channel capability with that setup.

After that it really comes down to whether your system will operate at 1T or 2T mode. Many motherboards won't work in 1T mode when you've got 4 dimms because of slight timing differences, but then again many motherboards won't work in 1T mode with 1GB dimms either.

So, given that you've already got 2x512MB the best solution is probably to get another pair the same. But note, I really do mean the same, otherwise you have no chance of getting 1T mode to work and your other timings will probably be poor too.

You cannot run 2x512MB + 1x1GB.

if you have intel processor you really should use 2x512
they really need dual channel so the core clocks of both ram and cpu can match up, if the clock of ram is < than the cpu clock then you will have a bottleneck, that's really common on intel cpus due to their really high internal clock speed

Its an AMD socket 939 board and beware of high speed memory (500mhz) since the motherboard can only deliver up to 2.8v and some memory requires more

Only BH-5 needs a lot of voltage..so no problem there.

i ordered 2 X 512 samsung Pc3200 DDR400 i hope that i see a magnificent speed differences when it comes to loading multiple programs on startup.
