problems backing up xbox360 games

new to all this, if i d/l a game to act as a backup as mr nobody has scratched 2 discs beyond repair.
if the final file is an .iso file then i can burn it and it works, but if .rar all i get is a coaster no matter what.
i have tried imgburn, cdclone & DVDD. i use Aone d/l discs(work if .ios file), Optiarc AD-5170A d/l burner.
any ideas?

extract the rar. The Iso should be within.

not sure if i understand you correctly, but this is what i have done.
there are 3.rar files, .rar .00 & .01 so i extracted the .rar file using powerarchiver.
i now have image.000 & dvd.000, i opened the .dvd and removed the layerbreak line and saved
dvddycrpter "invalid or unsupported image file format
imgburn burnt it, so did cdclone but both of them are unreadable in the 360

i cannot see where the iso file is you advised

what am i doing wrong or missing
