I know this has been ask before, but what is the best anti-virus out there at the moment?

I'm looking for something that don't take up a lot of resources.
At the moment I'm using avg7, the free version. But not sure if its doing as good as job as many others out there.

Antivir may be faster that AVG (both are free)
Nod32 is supposed to be the best when it comes to taking resources (not free)

norton or mcafee or pccillin ............. of course NOT!

One of the best AV i have ever known is of course the ON/OFF switch on your computer :D

I also realized that most "new" computers these days have NO A Drive which in fact is the most usual way to receive viruses - email is the next most obvious and then of course downloading suspect material (porn_best of.exe)

I think that with a cool head and sensible surfing, you can in fact survive - that together with NOT opening email from people you have never heard of - shut off the preview window in your email software for example - if you are suspicious, then send an email to your friend and ask if they sent you something.... better to be over-suspicious than risk crashing your HDD

Always have your AV software running to check incoming AND outgoing traffic!!! It takes a bit of System resource - but so what?

I dont use one, EVER i never have viruses because i know what websites are fishy and not, you only get a virus if you are very stupid.- viruses dont come to you,Very stupid? I would prefer ignorant of the dangers.
Viruses do come to you; in emails and drive-by web downloads. You don't have to go to a pr0n or crack site to pick up these things - KIS occasionally warns me of nasty code on all sorts of sites.
Moreover, how do people know which antispyware and antivirus programs are safe to use? There are far too many malicious spoof programs out there.

pc-cillin picks up stuff no other does and partinered with vistaThat guarantees nothing. I remember Adaptec building XP's inbuilt CD burning capability for Microsoft then the next release of their Easy CD Creator rendered XP unbootable.

Norton FTW! I use the Internet security package . Cant beat it .

Norton AntiVirus is the most accurate one at this moment . However it take a lot of memory and have those annoying live updates ;pYou'll be pleased to find out that last week I removed a MicroBillingSystems infection from a computer with a fully up-to-date and running legit copy of NIS2007.
I also had to make a rule to tell it to let Windows Time update itself and set a different NNTP server since NIS had blocked both for some reason.
There is only one advantage that NIS has over Kaspersky and that's the automatic handling of detected threats. I would've installed KIS on that machine if I thought they could make the right decision for its popups.

To all:
NOD32 holds the virusbulletin detection mantle - 100% for so long that I can't remember when it didn't score maximum.
You could do a lot worse if you install Outpost Firewall with it.
If you prefer an integrated AV & firewall, go for Kaspersky Internet Security.
If you want free, Avast appears the most effective AV solution.

Well, everyone has thier opinion on this, but if you want actual science, check out this site:

http://www.av-comparatives.org/

But yeah, as most people have said NOD32 ranks pretty high up there, as does symantec, but Avira owns them all, apparantly. Especially in scan speed, and the heuristics (detection of malware undetected with patterns) - is is like 3x better than the nearest competition at this! Hmm, 25% or 75% detection, which do you choose? :)

NOD 32 is the best at the moment cause is the strongest and doesn't take too much from the CPU
