I've heard from many people that with Opera browsing the web is actually faster. Now here is the question, with Opera (even on 56k) can browsing actually be faster? And how??

Its alot faster. i dont know why its so much faster than explorer.

I know one reason is it saves past pages so they can be cached later.

It a has built in resume broken downloads incase you get knocked off line in the middle of a download....its the best browser for the problems that 56kers have

If your system crashes while your browsing, it remembers the pages you were on and asks if you want to pick up where you left off

Built in pop up blocker than works 100%

Recently, MyIE has attracted IE users and most of them are replacing IE by MyIE which is just a customizable version of IE with popup blockers and other tools. Storing cache is really not a good thing which apparently opera does. This way when you visit the page, its not necessarily new/updated instead its loaded from the cache. You can always press Ctrl+R to refresh the cache also, but why bother keeping so much space for visited sites. Looks to me as waste of Mb's which laters turns in to waste of Gb's :-) :D

anything is faster than ie since these non ms nav's arent build into the os. mozilla is another promising browser that is completely FREE and RELIABLE.

opera 7 is cool.

Download it, then get the keygen to get rid of the banner, and your set.
It has fast connectivity i notice. Less "unknown" page errors

@ghost944 u know u can make opera work with quicklinks and ed2k links. Do a google search for sig2dat opera and u should find what u have to do. It doesn't work with some older style quicklinks though.
Edit: NB in 7.11 the ini file's name has been changed (from the name listed in the tip on the web), but its still easy to find.

Mozilla Firebird (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firebird/)

It's blazingly fast.
Built in popup blocker, tabbed browser, supports themes and plugins, and is completley configurable.

You can get the latest nightly build HERE (http://komodo.mozilla.org/pub/firebird/nightly/latest-trunk/).

Good site that helps people out with Firebird, and offers themes, extensions (plugings), tips, etc. (http://texturizer.net/firebird/)

Best Firebird forum (http://www.mozillazine.org/forums/index.php?c=4)

It works fine with sig2dat

I don't know why u have don't problems with it? because opera doesn't automatically support sig2dat quicklinks. Either somehow the solution has been applied to ur opera or u must be one jammy bastard :P

Oh, copy and paste, well obviously that works, your just copying the text. But that takes ages if you have to do a lot of quicklinks. The thing i'm talking about is a small change in an ini file and u can just click the quicklink like in IE and kazaa/kdat produces the dat

About the speed of Opera
I have Opera 7.11 registered.and I also have a 56k connection.
Test after test that I've conducted between Opera and IE6, IE6 wins everytime by a landslide.
I mean it's not even close people.
Are you people that think Opera is faster running a faster connection?
Opera takes up to three times as long to load a page on my comp with a 56k connection speed.

ShockAndAwe^i^ your experience puts you in the vast minority. Opera fastness is especially noticable the slower the connection. If you find out why Opera is so slow on your sys. it would be interesting to know.

Thats what I keep hearing.
I want to run opera but don't because of the speed and not loading web pages correctly.
I'm gonna give it one more chance.
I'm gonna go dl it from their site and use my key.
Believe me, I really would rather run it than IE6.
But every test (not just speed) that I've ran using the exact same circumstance's IE wins hands down.

If you want something a bit faster and opera doesn't do it for you, try this one. It still uses parts of IE but it's a Lot faster. I haven't seen any security problems posted yet so hopefully it's safe.
