yeh i defrag like once every two weeks or so. mp3s take ages to load up (when winamp isnt already on) and also media player classic is really slow too...actually most programs take ages to load up :S

Remove unnecessary startup programs and services.

use tuneup utilities.. really handy program.

Some services may not be required in your personal setup....ex. printer spooler if you do not have a printer setup :) Other services install themselves with programs examples are diskeeper or sisoftsandra. With these I disable them until I need to run the program...

I use to defrag in safe mode(it did help speed up the defrag) but ever since I started using diskeeper to defrag I just let it run in normal mode.I don't notice any difference..

use a registry cleaner, then defrag your registry.
get Hijackthis to find out what processes are running and what they do.

try a program called xp smoker. It automatically optimizes your system. Also try ashampoo.

i hate ashampoo running in the background, diskeeper is better because for me.

I just use it's auto-optimizer, I don't let it nun in the background. I also have diskeeper. Is a life/timesaver!
