Don't remember that childhood movie?
Forgot that classic movie's name?
Have a movie's name on the tip of your tongue?
Wanna test the board members astute movie knowledge?

Never fear, for now you can post your what-was-that-movie-again related questions here and let your fellow boardmembers help you in your quest. Don't hesitate to ask for TV series either.

Anyway, this thread is inspired by this topic (http://filesharingtalk.com/index.php?showtopic=37351).
I was just playing with the idea and opened this partly out of curiosity and partly to test my own movie knowledge. B)
Perhaps it's also good place for fond memories of long-forgotten movies.

Some basic posting guidelines
Try to include the following things Type of movie (e.g. Thriller, comedy, etc.)
The (approximate) year of release or viewing <-- This one's important!!!
Memorable characters (perhaps names) and/or situations
Mention if it's a black/white, animated or color movie
Brief plot synopsis
Maybe a quote or something
Name of actors/actresses (or if you don't know, other movies they played in)
Ok, hit me!

Hey BIC this is a great idea. Hope this topic gets pinned. To start you off Ill see if you can help with an aniamted film ive been looking for. I remember seeing it in the late 80's. I think it was called...Wind something...Racers of the Wind...something with Wind in it. Anywho...I dont really even remember the plot...but I remember it had these giant creatures that looked like huge rolly-pollies. And there was this girl who could control them. Im not sure whether it was an American, European, or Japanese animated feature either. But it was very dark...there was some blood shows. Definitely not kiddie fare.

Damn, difficult one here's a longshot:

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Nausicaa.net's synopsis (http://www.nausicaa.net/miyazaki/nausicaa/synopsis/)

In one version it was called 'Warriors of the Wind', which was a bad rip-off with the best parts edited out.
It's a Japanese anime btw. and I'm pretty sure you'll find a hash in the K-Lite Anime Database (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/joan.kristensen/N.html)

Thx again BIC. That was exactly it. It only took me over a decade to find it...but it was worth it :D Ok...I got another one for you. I also saw this film in the late 80s. It was about this kid who found a pit out in the woods which was full of man-eating...ugh...pit dwellers. Well the kid ended up throwing his enemy...and Im pretty sure his mom in the pit. At the end he himself fell into the pitt. From the look of the film it looked as though it were either from the late 70s or early 80s. Happy Hunting

Keep 'm coming guys! Anyone else with those old childhood movies or otherwise obscure titles?

thegroggman
06-05-2003, 06:23 AM
Jeez BIC you did it again :D Ok...ok...I have a hard one for you. Mainly because its so vague in my memory. I was very young when i saw it. It was an animated film...about rabbits. But it was very violent. Or...at least the beginning was. Because...from what I remember this large brown rabbit came and killed all these white rabbits. The rest of the movie Ive completely forgotten. But that one part has stuck in my head till now because it was so disturbing.

I kinda like doing this thread. Some movies you just don't wanna forget, you need a sign of assurance that you know what the movie is about, and most importantly, it's title. So far, I haven't got any shows in mind that I can't remember.

Nice thread deserves a *bump*.

Saw it in the 80`s, colour, it was a horror, haunted house type of plot,
i just remember there was a black guy who whenever things would
start to get spooky, he would run a mile, every time (funny as hell)
sorry, no quotes or character names, the freaking out black guy was
the only main point i remember, been hunting this movie for years.

Can't sleep so I might as well answer try to answer it.

Perhaps it's
'The Love Bug' *IMDb link* (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0064603) with everybody's favorite Beetle: Herbie!!! (or any other of the Herbie movies)

However I seem to remember another madcap car race (not Canonball run) from that period.

Thought this one would look nice side by side with "Movieworld 'easy tease'" :D

Can somebody name this movie (requested by botts):

ok...here goes...martial arts...late 70s early 80s (i saw it with "the watchers in the woods") and the only two things i can really remember are a naked woman - perhaps sitting down - and the martial arts guy doing this amazing thing with a staff. He would hold the staff by the end in one hand and do giant circles...the other end of the staff would basically just spin in one spot....i guess making like a revolving cone shape....

Perhaps somebody recognises this?

I have one. Probably early 80's. Animated. With Kangaroos. I remember a mother kangaroo getting into a fight with something and scratching the heck out of it with her feet. I remember a similar feel to that of Watership Down in the darkness of the story...but I think the animation was better. Anyone have any idea? I think the Kangaroos had austrailian accents........

I think I know the movie, but I don't know the English title for it
In Dutch it was called: 'De Reddertjes in Kangaroeland'

EDIT: Never mind I found the English title: 'The Rescuers Down Under' (1990)
In hindsight I don't think that's it (too late and only a few kangaroos)

EDIT2: OK, don't know if this is what you mean but there was a tv-series called 'Saturday Supercade'. It had different segments and one was about a young mother kangaroo look at the IMDb Plot Summary (http://us.imdb.com/Plot?0287877). It's at the end of the summary.

Actually Bic, that sounds more like a pretty trippy Austrailian cartoon called Dot and the Kangaroo. It was about the environment and such and I remember it being pretty dark.
Then again, I could be completely wrong.

Bic mate maybe you know about this tv series that obviously didn't hit it off. Its american and somewhere along the lines the main lead found a magic lamp and out of it came a genie, who happened to be a street-wise afro-american dude.

Its set in modern times or atleast this show aired sometime in the eighties. There may only have been a couple of epsiodes but i can't find it anywhere. I was after the theme, it had lyrics along the lines of" is it , just our luck" quite catchy at the time.

Any ideas?

I agree.

Ok, I got a new one for you to think about.

Made BEFORE RoboCop, this sci-fi video-first was about some guy who dies but is brought back to life as a cyborg, wearing a sort of chunky body-preserving suit. In one scene, which RoboCop no doubtedly ripped off, the cyborg drags some bad guy out of a room after smashing through a wall and grapping him unawares.

I have a feeling the film was called The Exterminator, but this isn't the 1980 one. This was definitely made in the mid-1980s and was very much in the mould of RoboCop.

Please help: this is driving me mad!

Ok here is one for you. I believe it involves an athlete that comes home and must save his town or something, from people terrorizing the town orr something like that, or maybe jsut his family. I think he was a football player. I can't remember if he was playing a washed up footbball player or just a real life football player trying to act. But I think it was an action movie. Plot seems kinda lame now but I always wanted to know what this movie is or if I made it up when I was a kid.

Are you sure it was an action movie, not a bad horror flick? Cause that reminds me of Brian Yuzna's " Society" with lame actor Billy Warlock ( later seen on Baywatch )...

Sweet, great idea for a thread guys, now maybe someone can give me a hand figuring out this anime I saw a while back. I remember that it had a chick named "sister Christian" in it, (I think,) and there was a priest and some other folks who fought off evil. I remember the catch-phrase being "testify!" Anyone know the name of this anime? It was funnier than all hell.

Hey guys, excellent thread.

I've been trying to think of this one for ages - American made film i reckon, probably early 80's. I think it was a blend of horror and comedy, though it was more funny than scary.Plot i think involved a haunted house, and there were these two goofy guys who dig up some old guy from his grave (he's still alive) to help them. I really only remember it because it had this weird caterpillar dog thing, it really was quite cute.

any help at all would be great, it's been bugging me for ages.

This should be easy:

Its a U.S. movie from the late 1990's (1996/7/8) that spoofs the Godfather trilogy, as well as Forest Gump and others. Full color, NOT animated. I saw it on TV once but forget the title. In the end the main character's wife becomes president of the USA, and starts a peace on earth plan.

I was asking about this film in another thread so here it is:
Its a complete predator clone, the alien or whatever it is , is practically identical, even has invisibility and heat vision also at least the end is set in the jungle.
The main guy is hispanic /native american and I thought he might have been in last of the mohicans, but that might be rubbish. He has definitely been in other films though

a 20 minute fight over wearing glasses (I know this one just curious if others do)

But really ive been trying to remember two movies. One where everyone is part of a group of primary colours and they fight all the time, it came out in the mid 80's and was some of the movies you end up seeing in elementary school

The other is the one about a blind samurai that clint eastwood based all his movies on

chalice

Monolith,
haven't a clue about the glasses fight.

The second one sounds like Colors. It has Robert Duvall abd Sean Penn in it I think.

The japanese movie you're talking about is called Yojimbo by Akira Kurosawa who incidentally also wrote and directed The Seven Samuari which was remade in Hollywood as The Magnificent Seven.

I don't remember Sanjuro (the samurai in Yojimbo) being blind. But the film was indeed the basis for 'For a Fistful of Dollars' and even 'Last Man Standing'.

This is a horror show I watched, as a kid, way back in the 70's maybe 80's . The title may have the word train or night or terror in it. I would like to watch it again.

I'm looking for the name of a movie. Can't rember too much about it, except for the beggining. Sorry if this is a little vague, it's been a long time since I've seen this.

I'm pretty sure the movie came out in the early to mid 90's. It starts out with these two guys sitting on a car in a parking lot at night. They are talking, and a club near by lets out and all of these people walk out. Can't remember what happens next, but I know this large guy and his girlfriend walk up to the two guys and start talking shit, and the girl says that her boyfriend is going to kick their asses. After that, I can't remember anything about the movie. I don't even remember if I saw it all the way through. But that beggining scene bugs me to no end, 'cause I can't remember the rest of the movie. Not sure who's in it, or what the premise of the movie was.

Again, sorry for the vague description. But if anyone can tell me what this movie was, I'll be very greatful.

Hmmm, maybe I'm really confused on it and that's it. I'll have to watch it and find out. Could very well be the movie. The last few years have been pretty hectic for me, so everything sort of blends together here and there. It's quite possible that I watched the movie a year or so ago and thought it was something I had seen back in highschool. Anyways, thanks. I'll have to go look for that.

Oh, and while looking back on some of the pages here I noticed Morroch asking about a movie. The movie was House 2, the second story. Some guy inherits a house and his friend stays with him. They dig up his great grandfather (or great great grandfather, one of the two) who has a catipillar looking dog. The first House was pretty good, although cheesy at some points. House 2 had it's moments, but was more of a comedy horror than anything. I've yet to see anything on House 3, but I've seen the VHS case for House 4 (never actually watched it).

O.K Notorious

try this one, its a Euro film (maybe spanish/italian/greek) 1970's/80's

might be a cop chasing someone but not in Cop car

looks like or may have been Omar Sharif

car chase lasts for ages (more than fifteen minutes)

they drive thru underground, shopping centres smashing into everything as they go, the cars looked like a Lada Riva style

the cars got more beat up all the time but kept going, i did not think it was meant to be a comedy more a thriller.

after chasing it , something happens to the cop/omar (????) or his car ?????? and he watches the guy walk off (maybe wrong on that though)

it was the best car chase i have ever seen , NOT at all like a "Hollywood Great" car chase. this was not boring at all.

So Notorious over to you.

i await your judgement

:-"

Edit : i think it is french, think it is a crime thriller and i also think i may have just also found it . shall await confirmation from the great one

chalice

The car chase in that is one of the all time greats.
Gene Hackman was in it, though. I don't think Omar Sharriff was in it.

If not could you give an estimate as to when this movie came out, if it's a cinema or TV/Video release, what country it's from etc. (see also the first post in this thread)

@rambler: sorry m8, don't have enough info to go on. At the end of which film was it? Any other snippets of info perhaps?

Any feedback guys? Or have you given up already?

@Nexus: Still waiting... :-"

O.K Notorious here we go.

i have a few so lets go one at a time.

when i was younger (under 10) i saw my cousins watching a film where.

man wakes in bed. leans over to hug his GF. she not there.
he rubs his head and eyes.
then notices his GF's Head impaled on the bedpost and her entire body is spread around the room.(intestines, liver, kidney etc)
he screams.
the decapitated head opens it eyes.

then i got scared ran and went into den to watch E.T

dont laugh i was young and knew no better

Ok Bic I got one for you ,its a horror movie made in the 80's early 90's.
Its about a family that moves into a new house and in the attic is an old tv left behind by the previous owners.
The boy plugs it in and the tv dosent work ,so he leaves it there and goes back down stairs.Later Zombies come out of the screen and walk a muck eating peoples brains and slowly hunting down more victims.

Very funny and comical ,not part of the living dead series.
As far as I remember its called Zombie Nightmare no luck finding anything anywhere.Maybe thats not the name.

All of which who have great popwers. A big guy with ots of strength, a short guy with big ears who could blow people over cos he had massive lungs, a guy who when stationary had to have one leg tied behind the other so he didnt run so ridiculously fast all the time. WOW i can get in the forum and no sql error's

nice to see you back Notorious

if i wanted to quiz you with films i know, then i really would have some obscure titles for you. as i think you would for me

i blame the unknown films on youth, drugs and late nights of Northern TV in the eighties. hence some b-movie late night fodder.

I mentioned foreign films from when i travelled a bit in the nineties
and my nan asked me about some silent films.

i also had a friend that managed a video store, and on the afore mentioned evenings we were known to play "the movie game"this involves getting clues to the movie then if incorrect drink copious amounts of the nearest spirit etc...

now on to the previous movie "spaceman thing"

i remember a scene where the astro has to get past a door keypad thing and his hands were moving really quickly over it until he cracked it

quite cliched i know but thats about all i know about it.

edit: sorry i forgot . yes it was the right movie. could you not tell from my face!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe it might be a segment from tales of the darkside the movie. One of the segmets has old man William Hickey paying hit man David Johanson (Buster Poindexter) to of the family cat, whom he believes is a demon from hell. I believe the last scene has the cat coming out of the old mans mouth. It also might be The Uninvited in wich a mutated cat stows away on a yacht and kills a bunch of vetern actors such as george kennedy. heres the links to the movies. http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0096341/ http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0096341/ my bets on tales from the darkside

I got 2 that really have been bugging me. 1st 1 should be easy it was a cartoon series where people from earth find an old alien space craft and they adapt its technology make these cool jets that can walk with kick ass weapons and they fight an alien race who trying to get the technology, it might be asain cartoon

The other 1 i cant remember much about but it might have been a made for tv movie, it was from the early to mid 80s. These kids are looking for some missing old mans lost fortune i think the boy ends up finding it in some trap door that has a room and he finds the old mans bone there and apparently the old man had burned the money to keep warm or something , he had died from the smoke inhallation i guess . Then the boy is trapped down there. And the girl comes to find him. thats all i can remember for now , thanks for the help

one is about a husband and wife who seperate sorta, and the husband stays in the basement of the house all the time, at the end of the movie his wife is being harrased by her new boyfriend or somehting, and the husband sees this thru a crack in the floor, and he pulls him down onto these spike things, really weird.

another is about a father who lives alone and his haunted by his son that he drowned when the son was just about a baby, at one point in the movie there is a hole in one of the floors with dirt and a green hand comes out and pulls in a necklace or a bracelet. horror/early 90's/80's

the other is about a guy with his girlfriend or wife, and theres a dog in the basement barking all the time, so he goes to shut it up, at one point in the movie the guy comes out of a door that is in the ground like 200 feet away from the house, and some monster pulls him back in or something, i think it might have been the Cellar. horror/80's

Nexus: Well I've got a few candidates, but none fit the bill completely
1) As mentioned before 'the Astronaut's Wife' which is from 1999 but set in the 80s
2) "The Fantastic Four" but hasn't the scene with the keypad I believe
3) "2010: the Year we make Contact" (sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey) that's just a guess from the top of my hat because the setting resembles 2001.

I've got one, although have little information. I know how the Itallian job ended, the famous cliffhanger "Hang on a minute, lads. I've got a great idea," with the gold bullians in the truck, hanging of a cliff. But what other film featured that similar cliffhanger - the gold bullians, the cliff and the same sorta phrase? I can't remember the film, but im sure it exists.

I don't remember it being in a bus, and the movie was probably 80s but more probabaly late 90's.

anyway before i go off on one,

let me try another

german/dutch maybe even danish

everywhere he stops somewhere he gets caught up in something (crime/murder)

wife getting stroppy

husband being all enigmatic

kids complaining

cop ends up catching some rapist/murderer maybe serial rapist/killer

this is a rare one i think.

hope i catch you out this time :)

 Hi guys,

I have a little question of my own. When I was younger I saw an animated movie of which I can remember almost nothing by now. But I really would like to find out what it was. Ok, so here it goes:

It was animatedand the language was English. I saw it in the early or mid-eighties (it was on a Betamax videorecorder, so it's a pretty long time ago). I don't know much about the plot, but it was some sort of a Kung Fu movie. I remember a fat guy (maybe Bhudda or something like that), something about a girl and the hero. The hero was dressed in green (at least I thought it was green) oriental clothes. Green pants and a green jacket of some sort (and black karate shoes, I think). The hero reminds me of Bruce Lee. In fact in the movie he also says one time, just before he starts to fight an enemy, that he was tought Kung Fu by Bruce Lee....

Any suggestions? I hope so because I really want to see that one again sometime. Thanks.

Here's One:

A guy murders someone, and a detective sets to investigate. He begins to find out that there's an evil spirit working in the mind of the murderer, so he was framed. The evil can be passed from one person to another really quickly, through touch I suppose. I can't really recall but I thought the ending was dodgy, the evil spirit went into a cat when we all think it's gonna die. If I look hard enuff I think I'll find it, but it's very recent, I can't remeber the characters though.

Ok guys, I would like to stress the fact that there should be put somewhat more effort into the descriptions.
Only 1 sentence won't give enough info to do an effective search.
More information, ANY information will go a long way to help searches.

Look in my first post for things you can add, especially dates are really helpfull.

Sorry fella, its just that Ive watched so many bad films since then that they all just seem to merge into one big B movie!

The film I was describing came out in the early to mid eighties (so I was only a kid), the man on the motorbike wore dirt-bike protective armour (breast plate and helmet with goggles). As I said he used chicken shit as fuel and I think at some point in the film he gets hit by a crossbow (or bow and arrow) in either his chest or arm, and he recovers in a barn. He lived on like a farm ranch and there are the run-of-the-mill 'mad max' style bad guys terrorising the local village in a kind of 'scorched earth' envoiroment. Sorry that's all I have! :(

Erm, Im not sure if this has been mentioned before, but it has been on uk tv recently

Ewan Mcgregor, following some woman, keeps reporting back to his spy base on her, hes trying to protect her, he keeps seeing his dead daughter, who talks to him, and he collects snow domes from all the citys hes followed her to, eventually he ends up following her on a motor bike, in the snow, her car crashes, and he ends up holding her, bleeding, in the snow

it was a weird movie but it intrigued me

Here's one. It's a late 60's or early 70's drama in colour. It's about a bunch of midgets who rob banks and have big shootouts with the cops. there is some regular guy in the starring role and some blond chic too. In the end the robbers srew each other out of their shares and I think it ends with one of the midgets selling chocholate bars off the back of some truck. I used to think it was called "The seven little cigars" but for 15 years or more I can not seem to locate it by that tittle...maybe I was wrong?..........Do you know this movie tittle or better yet, where can I get a copy?

Ok Bic that's a pretty good track record you got going, if u get this one i'll be very impressed, it's a manga made in late 80s/early 90s, some police guy (i think) gets done in so a scientist grings him back with a bunch of upgrades robocop style, super strengh, optical cortex connected to satelite to see for miles around and this typical japanimation weapon: a expandable staff like the one used by old man in ninja scroll. Btw great idea for forum wish i'd thought of it.

don't kill yourself thinking about it, it isn't very famous(haven't heard of it since) so i wouldn't be suprised if no one figures it out.

humm.. well i was thinking about this the other day.. i saw a movie sometime around 1990 and i dont remember a lot of it, but i really want to know the name of it..

there was a kid, and he had a friend.. at one point, they were listening to a record and they spun it backwards and there were demonic sounds or something.. later in the movie, a big hole opened in the middle of his house, and i think they went down in it.. i also remember a hole in his backyard, maybe thats where they came out.. and somewhere along the line he consulted his family bible..

it seems like a really crappy movie, but i cant stand now knowing the name or maybe the rest of the story line.. any help?

I think I found it! "Goku: Midnight Eye" 1 or 2 IMDb Link (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0097445/) Although it doesn't say in that synopsis he is armed with an extendable staff, here's a synopsis from another site (http://users.powernet.co.uk/shoujo/ukanime/anim96.htm):

GOKU MIDNIGHT EYE #1
Goku is a private investigator, who becomes involved when the efforts of the Japanese police to investigate a powerful gangster meet with disaster. While investigating the Hyakuryu building several detectives apparently go mad and kill themselves or their colleagues. Goku investigates with the sole squad survivor Yoko, and the immediate outcome is another disaster. Goku finds himself hypnotized by one of the gangster's androids, a "peacock girl" and escapes only by stabbing himself in the left eye to break the hypnosis. He is rescued by a mysterious group and equipped with a cybernetic left "eye" and an extending metal staff/shock gun. Armed with his new powers, Goku resumes his attack on the Hyakuryu building and its defending androids.

GOKU MIDNIGHT EYE #2
In this part, Goku is asked by a young woman to track down her brother, but he finds that nothing is quite what it seems.

p.s. better not call people who help you 'pedantic' ;)

Glad to have helped you Shtkckr!

@karyn: Well, I don't know either. Was hoping to jolt your memory. Any other info perhaps? Like recognize actor(s) from other movies, did anybody get killed, was it a thriller/horror, did Ozzy Osbourne play in it? Etc.etc.

Ok NotoriousBic I know you still haven't found out about the western movie I enquired about, but I have an easy one this time.

I know half of the title but just can't remember the name of the person.
The Life And Times Of.......

It's about a man who who is either married to or just living with the woman who was Lois Lane in Superman. He treats her like dirt and beats her up all the time,One time he has sex with her and then has a fight then goes for a swim in the river next to their home.
the lady follows him and beats him over the head with a piece of wood or something. He drowns and dies.

Then the story starts a few years later when the ladys daughter has grown up and falls in love with a man who is the re-incarnation of her father who was murdered by her mum in the starting.
This man is a bad character as well and i think he gets killed again at the end of the movie in the same place as before.

I have given you a good idea of the movie but cannot think of the full title. :(
