It is indeed based on ice- hockey, some even call it that;"Australian Ice Hockey." This is a nostalgic sport, with the complete Australian team imagining , ice, except for the goalie, who has to imagine stopping the ball, which needless to say, he rarely does... The clever dribble movements, is them actually pretending to ..ice skate. This sport is played mainly in the summer.

In Australia they call Australian Football "Australian Rugby", and Soccer "Australian Soccer".

Are you guys talking about Aussie Rules Football, Rugby Union or Rugby League, they're 3 completely different games although basically gang scraps over a ball with different sets of rules, not unlike American football but with out the padding and constant stoppages to discuss strategy:)

We do know it looks similar to football...only it seems rather similar to Thai boxing...maybe a hybrid between the two?

More a hybrid between mixed martial arts, limited rules fighting and football, we can't spear tackle (pick guys up and slam them into the ground) in Thai boxing :).
