Few days ago I joined this chan on the mirc #trade don't remember on what server
But the thing is at the same channel was some guys from FST that I recognized by their nickname and they recognized meand it was really fun chatting with them online and stuffSo I was thinking why wouldn't FST open an Mirc channel on /server irc.p2p-irc.net (the server were most of the trackers have channels onThat will help to recruit to FST lots of new members from mirc channels and make our community a bit bigger :)

P.S.
In the future it will be possible to open a separate secret channel FST.trades
that only some users will be allowed to enter (users who have acc to the Invites Section on FST).

Trading VIA IRC is not safe, cuz you're there exposed.
It's good idea only for chit-chatting.

Exposed? how? if you use a vhost, how are you more exposed then here? No real difference between here and on IRC cept IRC would be real time.

Trades in irc are completely insecure.. Scamming can not be proved and it will be a heaven for scammers.. Not to mention that a lot of ppl will use other ppl's usernames etc.. :( Avoid it at all costs ppl.. ;)

you dont need to trade there

and its not made only for trading...

have you even used IRC?
you can register nicks with a password. Anyone who doesn't would have no room to complain if some one else used their name.

Do you even know what's a forum ?..respect Moon
Chit-chat in irc is kind of cool but FST still a forum after all.

And it would not be the first Forum, site, tracker, whatnot to utilize IRC as a way for members to connect to one an other.
I ment no dis-respect, but what he said about usernames can be avoided.
IRC can be usefull for many people, even those who use forums.
Just because its a forum doesn't mean it can't expand and grow?

There used top be a KLF irc chat run by some of the senior members here. I think this is a good idea..roscco if the team agrees could easily add a chat icon. This idea is not new,in the days of the KLF there was an irc chat channel for FST members which you could join by clicking on the chat icon on top and at the right of the page. This topic is on the wrong forum, it should be posted here Everything Related to the Board (http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/f-everything-related-board-9/)

Yes, I use irc, I'm idling from time to time in p2pnet.. Anyway, let's say an irc channel opens on a server (any server).. From that moment on, ANYONE can go and register anyone else's nick to use and scam ppl, I don't think everyone will join the server and register the nick from the first moment, though i'm sure some scammers will run immediatly for this... Also what about someone who doesn't want or know how to use irc?? Does he have to learn to use it just so that he registers his nick so that a scammer won't use it without knowing it?? And don't tell me mods will take time to check who's who, we're talking about THOUSANDS of members here on FST ;) .. And even if there's a rule that someone is obligated to check the id of the person by pming him here, then again some ppl would fall for it again.. The only thing that can come out of it is chaos in my opinion... And I've seen it happen before in another thing (not trading stuff)..

ps.Thanx Insomnia :)

I don't mind hosting the channel..so why not. Regading members that try to register under other known member's screen nicks, we would soon find out through a check of the ip. Then take approriate action.

its been discused before, its very hard when only few staff, and 4000 members idle in channel

If you guys do this, I recommend against p2pnet. I wouldn't bet my accounts that the IRCops there won't spy.

You can make invite-only channel. Only for FST members, using the same username & password for the forum and the IRC channel. Something like RevoTT and FTN channels.

there is manny scripts/bots that can advertise the new topics/threads of the forums etc...

Why don't you join the SoulSeek chat http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/f-file-sharing-8/t-soulseek-updated-406-67507 and ask for Petri, he could help you and I would be willing to host it, or you, if the FST admin agree.

I'm always on IRC, so I wouldn't be opposed to the idea. I just don't want to put too much of a burden on the staff.

unfortunately P2P-NET doesn't obfuscate ip addresses enough, so i don't recommend invite traders using it, as they can expose themselfs to tracker spies :)
