I've had it open for a few hours now, and now with 3 tabs it's using 160MB of ram. Does it not shrink once a tab is closed until it restarts?

Mine drops when I close a tab(s). FF has always been a ram hog..... if you disable memory caching it'll use a lot less ram but the pages will take longer to load.

I have 4Gb, it's not that big of a deal. I was just surprised.

a partial solution to the memory hogging is:

create new boolean value "config.trim_on_minimize" and set to true

it reduces the memory used when firefox is minimised

installing mr tech's extension and having a restart button does the job done for me. it saves the session when i restart and the ram usage decreases. yeah, i know it's not an automatic solution, but at least it works.

To sum up this thread. Firefox uses a lot of memory.

If this bothers you, use Internet Explorer.

Don't you dare come in and post, "or Opera".

To sum up SnnY in this thread, he hates Firefox because it uses a lot of memory so he uses Internet Explorer. :P

I tried. I mean I really tried to use it. I wanted to like it because of security benefits and superior rendering engine. But I just couldn't. I'm a firefox guy all the way. I think I'll get that restart button adon.
