for those those who have experience, im a little curious. how do you get ppl to start downloading from a new torrent site. like RTS.. big hype, not ttooooo bad content... but no one downloads. its just a dead site.

I actually PMed the "acting SysOp" suggesting him to implement 4x upload like SCN (which is exellent and is going great) but he just ignored me. THAT REALLY makes me enjoy the tracker more..

its pretty gay how much they hyped up the site and it sucks ass. correction maybe: how much "we" hyped up the site?

so... for those with experience, how do you get a new tracker going? 4x upload seems to be working for SCN :)

Get a server
Get TB Source

But there is a lot more to it than that you need good people and need to modify tb source.
The problem is now any one can set up a tracker but it takes a lot to make it a good one.

http://www.tbdev.net should tell you everything about how to set up tb source.

Its Simple.
Dont over hype the site, If it get to hyped people are expecting a lot more than they are getting.
Let people know its a new site, and that the site is still growing, tell them what the mods expect of the site, what is the goal of the site.
Site also needs to have something special. There are Way to many sites that dont offer anything other than torrents.
And now when you are starting to get people interested in the site, and starting to get some members there. The site needs to let their members maintain ratio. Its impossible to maintain a good ratio if its just 1k users.
So Freeleech is one way to go, Seedbonus is also a way, irc idle bonus, Double up load. Anything that give the users the ability to maintain a ratio over 1.
Personally i think free leech is the best way to go, that way the users are able to download anything they want without having to worry about ratio.
And furthermore the users are building them self a grate buffer. So the users are going to continue to use the site once the freeleech is over.

The site also needs good uploaders, Perhaps some packs they have made just for this tracker, can be movie packs or series.
It also needs nice and down to earth mods.
Mods that want to be mods because of the power they get once they are mods are should never be mods. Should have people that are interested in creating a site, that wants to learn things. And people that are doing it since because its their hobby and they are having fun.

But the main thing to get people to use your site is to allow them to download without fearing a ban because of crappy ratio. When you know you are never going to be able to seed back what you leeched, you are not going to leech there. Since you probably have like 5 other torrent sites were users are actually downloading stuff, and it would be much more easy to just get the torrent for one of those sites.

totally true... the only reason im not downloading from there is because no one else is downloading from there. i downloaded heroes from there 2 weeks ago and left it seeding for a week but only seeded back 4.3%

the thing with scn is they got themselvs a load of great members be4 the site was open, meaning they had a good comunity be4 people could even be invited or signup etc etc.

and the rest is history, i can see them becoming very popular over the next year

Well, basics are.
* Have a unique concept. Let's face it, having the concept "we'll up torrents FAST after pre!" is really 2005, and is done extremly well by a whole bunch of large trackers suck as ScT, TBy and FTN.

* Focus on community, and your members. Do not just open a site, and think that it'll go swimmingly, cause it won't. It takes a lot of work to create a cozy community, and there are different ways on doing it. Freeleech etc is one way, but there are always other ways as well..
Having 1000's of users at your IRC is not ness. a good thing. It will be a spamchannel, and the reason for having so many users, it mainly for the chanowners to stroke their enormous e-penises even further.

* Get the members active! Why aren't members leeching? Is the content too slow upped? Too fast uppers, so they can't follow? Too -slow- uppers, so they won't bother? Too crappy content? Think about why and what.

* Be friendly, and -always- listen to your members as a staffer, those are the ones with the ideas and are right to have their own opinion.
Think of it as a free survey, with great results if you decides to lean towards their ideas.

Those are the basics I can think of.. Cheers <3

Cheffe and Vidde pretty much covered alot of good points.

Another way to keep the site running smoothly.
Dont run gimmicks/lie to your users. If you say your doing 1 thing dont change your mind and do something else. Earn your users trust and you will find the sites that do this tend to stick around longer and have better communities in the long run. Some people thing having uber pres makes the site great.. You can have good pres but if you dont have a good userbase, friendly community, and files people acctually want... your just another torrent site. Having the environment people are looking for thats differant than the rast of the other torrent sites is what will make your site special and sought after.
