I want to know which is the best media player in your opinion. I mainly play MP3s and sometimes videos. I currently use WMP 10 and RealPlayer. I have started using foobar2000 from today. What are your opinions?

Media Player Classic is the best media player to date. Highly recommended. {I}{K}{E} posted an update to the K-Lite Codec Pack here. (http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/f-codecs-39/t-k-lite-mega-codec-pack-210-186693) This comes with Media Player Classic and enough codecs to play everything on this earth. Highly recommended.

In theory VLC is best because it can play anything and everything. I've always used WMP from 9 up and always liked it. Just install a good codec pack (like the K-lite mega codec pack) and you should be alright :)

Vlc

Contains many codecs (Better than k-lite codec pack) and two players: Media Player Classic, and Zoomplayer.

VLC is good, but handles many files terribly. The scanning tends to be bad, it takes a long time to load sometimes, and is just inferior for the regular avi or mkv.

For music, foobar2000.

for most files: media player classic - it's the most streamlined player to date, combining some very advanced options like filter management for advanced users with some know-and-love options like "save image" and "full screen" for beginners too. where are the visualizations? exactly. less emphasis on eye candy and more emphasis on media playing

for files that don't play in mpc(because the codec is missing): vlc

for mp3's only: 1by1 - because it's directory based, does a very good job of mimicking a standalone cd player. the feel of a real cd player is complimented by the "repeat" feature, which will repeat only one song or the entire directory just like a cd player. tiny footprint, i often leave this program running in the background when installing large apps with no ill effect to date. makes playlists feel like they are a waste of time(they are)

fyi, i found winamp to be farty and bloated. according to some side by side tests on my box, the same file in winamp took 3 to 4 times(est.) as much memory to run as 1by1. i don't remember the side by side test with mpc but i would guess mpc is more efficient than winamp.

Edit: i recommend version 1.47 of 1by1 over the newer version(s)

Personally I use VLC because it plays everything. My only complaint is that the program is ugly and the skins don't work well.

Windows Media Player 11 is the best one so far...

winamp, Winamp, WINAMP! It really whips the llama's ass. (for music anyway) It has an awesome searchable media library and allows you to edit the metadata of mp3's very easily and w/o stopping the song.

For video, I use either winamp or media player classic. I'd suggest you get the combined community codec pack (http://www.cccp-project.net/) and install. It will install codec to play probably any media file you come across. It also installs Media Player Classic.

VLC- video
iTunes- Music

why try to go to a new folder every time your looking for music when you can have it all in iTunes library;)

Just all your music in a <insertwhatevernameyoulike> folder.

Why iTunes?

I leave all my music in a folder called....wait for it....Music.

Any media player that I would use spoons off that folder.

Pretty simple.

I have another folder that has only ringtones.

Separate folders for torrents, TV shows, movies, porn, setup files, and drivers.

They are named accordingly.
