bought the Asus P5W DH Deluxe but was just wondering if this would be ok for the EVGA 8800GTS 640mb?

I'm not sure that any particular motherboard is better for a vid card than another...if the card plugs in and works, you're pretty much golden.

So I guess the answer to your original question is "Yes, it's OK".

Now we'll just wait for Lynx or VB to chime in with "WTF dude? EVERYBODY knows that pairing eVGA and Asus causes cancer and will make you sterile."

And then we'll have learned something new and interesting which is what the internets are all about.

Or not.

OK, so there's a downside but the real question is what kind of FPS in PONG can he expect?

Asus makes very nice motherboards.
eVGA makes very nice video cards.

Think of the money you'll save on condoms when you're sterile.

It's a win-win situation.
