Well it's one more reason to eliminate smoking (even the adverts). They momentarily turn even the most fat, bald, married men into homos.

I used the gum, was really helpful. Been off them for 9 years now.

Haven't had a cigarette in that time either.

Other than 1 (one) occasion.

One lunchtime, but if anything it strengthened my resolve. I was so disgusted by my weakness.

True story.

Its always bothered me when people say "Oh, I've quit smoking" and then they go light one up and say "Oh...well it's just one every so often."

Then you obviously havn't quit.

God, what fucktards, I swear. Glad you stopped, anyhow :)

It's not as hard as people make out. The 24 hours of stomach cramps are the worst thing, then the week of physical and mental torture. After that it's a breeze.

Barbarossa
06-20-2007, 02:05 PM
stomach cramps probably just mean you are thirsty, according to Allen.

Physical and mental torture is just a Scottish thing I think

Did you just go "cold turkey" or did you try to cut back first?

Me? Nonono, I've never smoked in any of my previous lives, including this one :dabs:

Fromagepas

Did you just go "cold turkey" or did you try to cut back first?

Stopped, used full strength gum for a week or so, then low strength. Chewed normal gum all the time. Then stopped that as well

Cutting back rarely works imho. Decide you are going to stop and then stop, commit to it and tell your mates not to fag you up even if you ask. It will be much easier for most people come 01/07 when smoking in pubs etc stops. That being the locus for most failures.

Stop smoking on 1st July everyone*. You know it makes sence.

*Only the smokers like.

Of which drug do you speak.

The drugs brand name is Champix. The active ingredient is varenicline. They are calling it a "wonder drug".

It works by stopping the cravings and heavily reduces withdrawal symptoms, but also stops the smoker feeling satisfied by smoking. It is recommended as a 12 week course. In the UK its a prescription only medicine, taken in pill form twice a day.

It's free on prescription on NHS from July i believe. Has a 45% success rate on peeps smoking 30+ cigarettes a day.

The internets suggest it's more like 22%, however it still seems to be pretty effective with a placebo scoring about 8%.

In essence it appears to almost treble your chances of stopping, long term.

Yeah, i just read that also, sorry for ny misleading advice. But, i think it's definitely worth a try. Especially for you guys in England with the smoking ban coming.

I did really well quitting in Uk as i never had any money! But here, a pack of Malboro Lites costs me 4.5 RMB, which is about 30p, give or take.
