Does anyone know of any decent FREE anti-virus software?
I'm getting tired of Norton

Most of which are available for download on your program of choice. ;)

Anyway Norton is a pig and is difficult to remove so use a good de-installer..actually Kaspersky does that for you and will first de-install Norton before it installs itself..

The norton removal tool would be a good thing to use http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

NOD32 is one of the best.

Not free, but if you google for NOD32 Fix, it's the first link. :P

The trouble with nod32 is that SoulSeek and other programs can be adversely affected as it often causes conflicts..

Skweeky, I've used them all. I've had the most success with the least amount
of conflicts on a variety of platforms; using AVG.

It's light on system resources (small footprint) free updates for virus
definitions and it's reliable.

Fact.

I've made no secret my contempt for antivirus programs, and the climate of fear that engenders their perceived necessity, but at work I was forced to start using AVG, because of one of our client's minimum security requirments in order to access their network via a VPN.

I have to say, it's not too painful, as BD says. :dabs:

me agrees. Fuck the anti-virus and the firewalls and the anti-spyware, especially the anti-spyware.

If you know what to click and what not to you shouldn't need an AV. Firewall, yeah...Outpost, FTW! with Antispyware plugin! :w00t: I've only used Outpost Firewall with Spyware thier spyware plugin for ~a year - I ran a free online scan from McAfee no problems...

Might wanna checkout Comodo Anti-Virus (http://www.comodo.com/products/free_products.html) - it's free and legit, but I have no experience with it. Just might wanna look it up if you have the time because I know their Firewall is highly rated and I have used it (and free).

Don't trust nonlegit security software tho' :dabs:

Let Norton go to hell. Choose Nod32 or Kaspersky. Better still, switch to Linux. :P

kaspersky user here for more than 2 years. totally satisfied with it. it doesnt bog down my pc or hog that much resources. so far ive used norton, mcafee, avast, and zonealarm but i always keep coming back to kaspersky for some reason.

I just use the stuff that comes with Virgin media. Anti-virus, firewall, spyware etc rolled into one. It seems to work goodly.

I'm getting along w/ avast just fine. It's free and does just fine. Kaspersky was to invasive.

Symantec Corporate, possibly a bit ott but works great. A computer network person told me it was as good as I would get. It also doesn't need registered or anything and can get updates.

Read comments. Not just to see if it's a virus or what-not but to see if it actually works, ya know?
