I downloaded Symantec Norton AntiVirus 2003 Professional Edition last September, after my legitimate version expired, it's great ... it automatically removes viruses without a full virus scan!

Both. NAV as resident AV. AVG as non-resident AV. :)

I use Kaspersky lite.

AVG failed to detect a virus and Norton caused problems with other software :)

no one's mentioned PC-cillin yet, I use it, and think it's much better than Norton AntiVirus & AVG. I had a virus on my computer that NAV didn't find, then when I installed PC-cillin, it found it and removed it.

This has been discussed many times. As usual, everyone has their own oppinion. I'll throw in my 2 cents:

I set up tests with several different computers, each running a different AV and loading them with infected files. I tested Norton, Symantec, TrendMicro, AVG Free, ZoneAlarm with AV & Spyware, NOD32, and Avira AntiVir.

Norton & Symantec were the worste and found almost none of my infected files. Avira AntiVir (free version) was the best and found 100% of them, AVG was second best and found most but not all Virii.

ZoneAlarm was very good at finding Spyware, but not so good at finding Virii.

After all my testing and from personal experience, my preference is Avira AntiVir. Best of all, it's free :D

You didn't even mention Nod32.... I've been using Nod32 for years now and have never had a problem... It's also very low on recources. Norton on the other hand is completely opposite.

I see a new version is out 6.0.1 4.11 , can't wait to try when my Vista bugger's up . I'll reinstall Win XP and thats my choice but will install the Internet Security version . :)

I'm a Norton or F-Secure fan but tried Kaspersky and right away it found a Trojan on a back up cd I had of old programs . The others did n't so I made the switch but sadly it 's not compatable with Vista .
