GOOGLE IS NOT MY FRIEND.

I'm trying to find out what pets I can own here in Scotland. Probably won't ever be allowed to get one but I want a marble fox or a grey fox or a red fox or a serval or a margay or a fruit bat or...

Links to UK fox-breeders please. Also, talk about fancy pets.

you're a mentalist who wants a fox as a pet, should you really be judging other peoples choice of pet?

I want a fox as a pet, callum. It's not weird at all. Foxes are beautiful and make nice pets.

foxes might be nice looking, but they make a noise that must be in the top five of the most horribile animal noises of all time, only just beaten by the peacock.

Yes, but that's only when they make noise. Most of the time they're quiet, so who gives a fuck?

This is the UK fox rescue centre in Derbyshire. Call them. They'll tell you if you can/can't/should/shouldnt

As i understand, you can have them as pets. I also found this bit -

Foxes as pets?

Foxes do not make good pets. Sometimes young cubs
are found apparently abandoned; these are best left
alone as more often than not the vixen is close by and
will soon find them. Foxes are wild animals and, even
if hand-reared, readily revert to their wild habits. Few
people have the space to accommodate adult foxes
adequately and, owing to their territorial nature, it is
very difficult to release a hand-reared fox into the wild.

So, do you have land for them to roam (they need a hell of a lot more than a dog)?

Do youlive in an urban area?

As "cute" as you think, there's more to an animal than making you happy. Could you give it the lifestyle that it needs, not what you want to project on it?

If it gets free or goes for walks, are farmers likely to shoot at it, even though you know it's "tamed".

A fox is for life, i guess. And like it says above, if you have enough of it or it becomes a pain, it's gonna hang around with you whatever. And probably wont be able to fend for itself.

"Cute" is not a fair reason to fulfill your desires.

I watched a doc on Discovery recently about some bear nut that lived in Alaska, who made friends with the foxes. The thing would approach any humans, which puts the foxes at risk as they're not scaed of humans. Just because you may want to hug and kiss it, doesnt mean anyone else does.

Ferrets are the way to go. Easy to handle, needs less caring, make good DustBusters. Ugly fooks though, and when they bite ya, its hard to get them off.

Weigh up the pro's and cons of the lifestlye you can afford any pet.

Get a Ferret ..although they are a little smelly.. they are great house pets and extremely funny ... Also they enjoy being secreted in warm body areas during transport. The panic look in the eyes of the people if they suddenly pop out your sleeve or other opening, is extraordinarily funny.

I used to live in a barn, right next door to a farmyard.

Foxes are hella cute. Waiting on your doorstep when you are pished shilly and pretending to be the local cat....but jeeeesus, when the buggers are in season, the vixens need a good hard boot in the fricking brain x10. :pinch:

11 times is best because 12 times normally kills the beast; which is animal cruelty.

Not if the Peacock is the third most annoying noise. That would make the Fox fourth, with the Peacock only just beating it into third place.

it GLIDES!!!! Like a flying fox. A pet that splats against the window when you make it jump, and survives to splat another day. I can't paste images from work so you'll just have to imagine it GLIDING

:ermm: I think it fair to say that I may have pointed out one or two impracticalities.

Not least I think I would end up doing all the feeding/cleaning /walking.

What the ferk is a sugarglider and how big do they get - the little one looks like a baby.

Agreed they are pretty but it doesn't seem (according to the Wiki article) that they are all that easy to obtain or keep - what with them wanting to be sociable at 3am and all.

That said, Marble foxes are not exactly common in Ayrshire either.

I wouldn't recommend keeping anything wild as a pet, fox, glider, or even terrapins. You can't provide the environment they need and foxes will always have a bit of "fox" in them. You'd be better off getting her a pretty fox-like dog.

How's about a tarantula for a pet eh?
It can eat your mice and insects.
It only needs a little glass box
It'll scare the living daylights of anyone trying to break into your house.
It's exotic
You don't need to walk it

One of the roommates here has sugar gliders. they are hella cute but I think would win over the peacock for most horrible noises. Unless there is a room that you can turn the lights on at night n keep dark during the day while everyone is out maybe.....
