u don't need to watch any of them in any specific order. actually, if i were u and u were gonna watch these this is how i'd do it. me, i watched them in order, but for newcumers i'd recommend this...

1. GitS: SAC S1
2. GitS: SAC S2
3. GitS Movie Part 1
4. GitS Movie Part 2

now, the reason i say this is becuz the series is NOTHING like that of the first movie. the first movie is VERY good and has a lot of cool futuristic ideas that the series completely forgets about. u don't need to know anything about the series in order to watch it either. it will all cum 2 u. the series is long, drug out and at times very boring. the 1st movie is action packed and something new (at the time) to us and is very fun to watch. the 2nd movie has a decent soundtrack and VERY good grafx, while the story leaves u feeling left out and perhaps wanting more. honestly, if u want to enjoy this at it's fullest imho i'd watch it in the order i've specified and u will enjoy it a lot more. if not the actual order is as follows:

1. GitS Movie 1
2. GitS Movie 2
3. GitS SAC S1
4. GitS SAC S2

there are extra eps that follow the Stand Alone Complex serires, but those don't need to be watched. i realize many will disagree with me on this, but that's how i feel. this of watching the 1st movie 3rd as it's a prequal to what u've already watched. by doing this it will keep the story fresh and MUCH more interesting. all in all hf with this as it's a good watch and much to soak in. :)

for the series of ghost in the shell: stand alone complex u can now watch the movie based on this. the name of this movie is called, "THE LAUGHING MAN DVD". basically what this is is all 26 eps of the first series crammed into a 4 hour movie. fyi.

Ghost in the Shell: Individual Eleven is (has been) out and is basically the 2nd gig tv series all wrapped up to make a 2.5 hour long movie. the tv series is around 8.5 hours long.

Ghost In The Shell - Solid State Society has also (for awhile now) been released and takes place after gits: sac 2nd gig and is ruffly 1 hour & 45 mins long.

If you are really into Ghost in the Shell the filler isn't that bad. I would definately recommend watching ALL episodes. The only part that may be pointless is the Tachikoma episodes.

I wish there were more animes like this. I can't seem to find any. Ill be waiting to see how the new life action movie turns out.

i love gits, but it's gradually falling into a drama instead of the sci-fi action genre it originated from. and that disappoints me. :'(

If you're not into philosophy , you're missing most of what these movies are about ... as well as the series ...

its kind of like the matrix , its futuristic and sci-fi action but a solid 50% + of the movie is in the dialogue and the contemplation of existence ... what does it mean to be human? What is "reality"?

just finished the remake of the original GitS. it was done perfectly. redone ambiance, sound effects, voice, musical score & grafx!!!!
